Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Pi extension: inspect Docker containers and systemd services on a remote VPS over SSH, or locally. Custom tools for logs, ps, compose, and journal.

Readme

@dieulc/server-logs

Pi extension that lets the agent inspect Docker containers and systemd services on a remote VPS over SSH — or on the local machine.

pi-package

Install

pi install npm:@dieulc/server-logs          # latest
pi install npm:@dieulc/[email protected] # pinned
pi install -l npm:@dieulc/server-logs       # project-local (.pi/settings.json)
pi -e npm:@dieulc/server-logs               # try without installing

Manage it with pi list, pi update --extensions, pi remove npm:@dieulc/server-logs.

Setup

Remote VPS (SSH)

pi --ssh user@host

With a specific remote working directory:

pi --ssh user@host:/path/to/project

Requirements:

  • SSH key-based auth (no password prompts)
  • docker CLI on the target (for the docker tools)
  • systemd/journalctl on the target (for the journal tool)

Local Docker

pi

Works without --ssh — tools run against your local Docker socket.

Tools

| Tool | Purpose | | --- | --- | | docker_logs | Fetch logs from a container (tail, since, filter, timestamps) | | docker_ps | List containers (running or all) | | docker_services | Fetch Docker Compose logs for a project | | server_journal | Fetch systemd journal entries for a unit |

Examples

// List containers
docker_ps: { all: true }

// Last 100 lines from the api container
docker_logs: { container: "myproject-api-1", lines: 100 }

// Errors in the last 30 minutes
docker_logs: { container: "worker", since: "30m", filter: "ERROR" }

// Compose logs for specific services
docker_services: { project: "myproject", services: "api worker", lines: 50 }

// systemd journal
server_journal: { unit: "nginx", lines: 100, since: "1 hour ago" }

Notes

  • Output is capped at 50,000 characters to avoid flooding the model context. Truncation is reported.
  • Secrets (Bearer tokens, API keys, passwords) are automatically redacted before reaching the model.
  • If Docker isn't available on the target, the docker tools return a clear message instead of throwing.

Development

cd agent/extensions/server-logs
npm install
npm run typecheck

The extension is plain TypeScript with no build step — Pi loads index.ts directly. For a live check:

pi -e ./index.ts
