Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Vue Player

Introduction

Lightweight, customizable, and easy-to-implement vue video player.

Installation

$ npm i @display-studio/vue-player

Setup

<script setup>
import { VuePlayer } from '@display-studio/vue-player'

const sources = [
  {
    src: 'YOUR_URL',
    type: 'video/mp4',
    media: "(min-width: 900px)"
  },
  {
    src: 'YOUR_URL_MOBILE',
    type: 'video/mp4',
  }
]
</script>

<template>
    <div>
        <VuePlayer class="vue-player" :sources="sources" poster="..." @play="...">
            // Your custom controls here
        </VuePlayer>
    </div>
</template>

<style scoped>
  .vue-player {
    width: 100%;
    position: relative;
    height: fit-content;
    line-height: 0;

    video {
      width: 100%;
      height: auto;
    }
  }
</style>

Nuxt Integration

The library is easy to implement in any Nuxt project. Remember to wrap it on the <ClientOnly> component.

<script setup>
import { VuePlayer } from '@display-studio/vue-player'
</script>

<template>
    <ClientOnly>
        <VuePlayer class="vue-player" :sources="sources" poster="..." @play="...">
            // Your custom controls here
        </VuePlayer>
    </ClientOnly>
</template>

Custom Controls

You can disable the native video tag controls and use your own custom ones.

Example:

Events

We have chosen the following events, but they may change.

See MDN for more info. | Event | Description | |-----------------------|---------------------------| |play | Triggered when the video starts | |pause | Triggered when the video pause | |ended | Triggered when the video end | |loadeddata | The loadeddata event is fired when the frame at the current playback position of the media has finished loading; often the first frame. | |waiting | The waiting event is fired when playback has stopped because of a temporary lack of data. | |playing | The playing event is fired after playback is first started, and whenever it is restarted. For example, it is fired when playback resumes after having been paused or delayed due to a lack of data. | |timeupdate | The timeupdate event is fired when the time indicated by the currentTime attribute has been updated.| |canplay | The canplay event is fired when the user agent can play the media but estimates that not enough data has been loaded to play the media up to its end without having to stop for further buffering of content. | |canplaythrough | The canplaythrough event is fired when the user agent can play the media and estimates that enough data has been loaded to play the media up to its end without having to stop for further buffering of content. | |statechanged | Triggered when a state changed |

Example:

<script setup>
    import { VuePlayer } from '@display-studio/vue-player'

    const myCustomFunction = ({ event }) => {
        console.log(event)
    }
</script>

<template>
    <VuePlayer @play="myCustomFunction"></VuePlayer>
</template>
