Multi is a standalone coding-agent CLI built on the Pi runtime. It adds remote machines over SSH, automatic file checkpoints with rewind, and an MCP server store, all inside one terminal session.

Install

Requires Node.js 22 or newer.

multi

Remote machines need SSH. Git is required on a remote machine only when you want checkpoints and rewind there.

Multi keeps an isolated profile at ~/.multi/agent; it does not load your Pi or shared agent extensions, themes, skills, settings, or sessions.

What you get

• /mns — add SSH hosts and let the agent work across machines.
• /rewind — restore local files to any checkpoint from the session.
• /mcps — find and configure servers from the official MCP registry.
• Safe remote writes — write access starts locked and must be explicitly enabled for the session.
• Standalone updates — Multi owns its Pi runtime and reports its own version, independently of Pi releases.

/mns finds hosts from ~/.ssh/config. Add one with Enter, set its remote project directory with Ctrl+W, or press Ctrl+N to create a new SSH connection manually. Each machine gives the agent its own bash, read, write, and edit tools while the files stay on that machine.

Quick start

1. Run multi in a project.
2. Type /mns to add an existing host from ~/.ssh/config, or press Ctrl+N in the picker to create a connection manually.
3. Ask the agent to inspect the remote project.
4. Run /mns-allow <name> when you want to permit remote changes.
5. Use /rewind or /mns-rewind <name> if you need to restore files.

Rewind

Every bash, edit, and write that changes files creates a silent checkpoint. Run /rewind when you want to return the working tree to an earlier moment.

Choose a checkpoint and Multi restores its files, including removing files created later. The private checkpoint store never changes your repository's branch or index, and even a rewind can be undone with another rewind.

MCP store

/mcps searches the official MCP registry without leaving the terminal. Enter installs a secret-free server, Ctrl+K adds one that needs credentials, and Ctrl+D twice removes an installed server.
