Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Emoji picker + shortcode plugin for @dojo-ng/rich-text

Readme

@dojo-ng/rich-text-emoji

An emoji picker and :shortcode: replacement for <dj-rich-text>.

Part of Dojo NG, a framework-agnostic web component library. BSD-3-Clause.

Install

npm install @dojo-ng/rich-text-emoji

Usage

Compose the emoji plugin with the default set. The toolbar gains an emoji button; typing :tada: becomes 🎉.

<dj-rich-text id="editor" label="Comment"></dj-rich-text>
<script type="module">
  import "@dojo-ng/rich-text";
  import { defaultPlugins } from "@dojo-ng/rich-text";
  import { emojiPlugin } from "@dojo-ng/rich-text-emoji";
  document.getElementById("editor").plugins = [...defaultPlugins, emojiPlugin];
</script>

Picker

  • The toolbar button opens a searchable emoji picker, eight columns wide. Search by name, shortcode, or keyword; move with the arrow keys; insert with a click or Enter.
  • The picker stays open so you can insert several, and closes on Escape or a click outside. Focus returns to the editor.
  • The system emoji picker (Ctrl+Cmd+Space on macOS, Win+. on Windows) also works in the editor. This adds a visible picker that works the same on every platform.

Shortcodes

  • With shortcodes on (the default), typing a GitHub-style :name: replaces it with the emoji. Unknown shortcodes stay as typed.

Setup

  • Exports emojiPlugin, createEmojiPlugin({ shortcodes?, set? }), EMOJI (about 170 emoji across smileys, people, hearts, animals, food, activities, objects, and symbols), the filterEmoji(set, query) helper, and the EmojiEntry type.
  • Emoji are plain text, so the plugin adds no node types.
  • For hashtags or other highlighted tokens, build a node the way @dojo-ng/rich-text-mentions builds its mention node. Hashtags are not included on purpose.
  • Setting plugins replaces the default set, so spread ...defaultPlugins to keep bold, italic, underline, undo, and redo.

Not built

  • Skin-tone variants, recently used emoji, category headings, a :shortcode: suggestion menu, and custom image sets.
