Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@domicile-desktop/manganese

v0.0.0-alpha-9044b1a30eb5

Published

Domicile's default desktop shell, as a library: runManganese(), its bar items and its keybindings, so you can compose your own.

Readme

@domicile-desktop/manganese

Domicile's reference shell: a tiling desktop with sway's layout and keys, under a transparent top bar.

  • The chrome is a React app built from @domicile-desktop/component-library and styled with Panda CSS from the library's preset.
  • Each Wayland client is an <app> element. Each browser window is a <webview> under an address bar. Both tile, float and close with the same keys.
  • One page spans every monitor. The bar is drawn once per screen; the windows are drawn once for the whole desktop. See ONE-PAGE-FOR-THE-DESK.md.

Configure

A config module exports Shell = runManganese(options) (see WRITING-A-SHELL.md). Every option is optional:

  • applications: omit, desktop file IDs the launcher hides, and bookmarks, pages it opens by name. See LAUNCHER.md.
  • keybindings: the key table. Defaults to DEFAULT_KEYBINDINGS and DEFAULT_MODES, sway's keys on Meta.
  • topBar: the bar's left, middle and right columns. Defaults to DEFAULT_TOP_BAR.

More

Build and run

  • bun run turbo build:vite --filter @domicile-desktop/manganese builds the chrome to .vite/renderer/main_window/.
  • nix run 'github:cprussin/domicile/stable#manganese' runs it. ./scripts/dev-shell.sh manganese does the same from a checkout.
  • bun run --filter @domicile-desktop/manganese start:dev runs it on the pinned engine and a compositor built from the checkout, and rebuilds on edit. To load the rebuilt shell, run domicile load-shell .vite/renderer/main_window/shell.js in a terminal on that desktop.
  • styled-system/ is Panda's generated output. bun run prepare makes it, and turbo runs that before build, type check and tests. It is not checked in.

Test

bun run turbo test --filter @domicile-desktop/manganese

Runs the type check, the unit tests and the Vite build. Components render against happy-dom via @domicile-desktop/test-support.
