Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Vitest mock factories for Google Apps Script globals (SpreadsheetApp, UrlFetchApp, PropertiesService, Logger, Utilities, CacheService) plus generic HTTP response builders.

Vitest mock factories for Google Apps Script globals.

Kills the (globalThis as any).UrlFetchApp = vi.fn() boilerplate that every GAS test suite ends up writing. One call to installGasGlobals() from your vitest setup file installs baseline mocks for SpreadsheetApp, Logger, Utilities, Session, CacheService, PropertiesService, UrlFetchApp, and Sheets. Individual tests override any of them as needed in beforeEach.

Install

npm install --save-dev @dougborg/gas-test-utils

Peer dependencies: vitest (^4.1.11 or ^5) and @types/google-apps-script. Vitest 3 and 4.0–4.1.10 are not supported: they are affected by GHSA-82fw-gwwq-j7x9, which has no 3.x fix.

Quick start

In your vitest.config.ts:

import { defineConfig } from 'vitest/config';

export default defineConfig({
  test: {
    setupFiles: ['./tests/setup.ts']
  }
});

In tests/setup.ts:

import { installGasGlobals } from '@dougborg/gas-test-utils';

installGasGlobals({
  properties: {
    KATANA_API_KEY: 'test-key',
    SHOPIFY_BQI_API_KEY: 'test-shopify-key'
  }
});

export { createMockResponse, resetAllMocks } from '@dougborg/gas-test-utils';

In a test file:

import { createMockResponse, resetAllMocks } from '../setup';

beforeEach(() => {
  resetAllMocks();
});

it('fetches orders', () => {
  (globalThis.UrlFetchApp.fetch as ReturnType<typeof vi.fn>).mockReturnValue(
    createMockResponse({ orders: [{ id: 1 }] }, 200)
  );
  // ... exercise your code
});

API

installGasGlobals(options?)

Installs mocks on globalThis for every GAS namespace the toolkit + ORM touch. Safe to call multiple times — each call replaces previous globals. Returns the mock objects.

Options:

  • properties — seed Record<string, string> for PropertiesService.getScriptProperties().getProperty(key). Keys not listed return null.
  • uuid — value returned by Utilities.getUuid(). Default 'mock-uuid-12345'.
  • formattedDate — value returned by Utilities.formatDate(). Default '1/1/2024 12:00:00'.

createMockResponse(data, code?, headers?)

Builds an object shaped like GoogleAppsScript.URL_Fetch.HTTPResponse:

  • getResponseCode()
  • getContentText() — returns JSON.stringify(data)
  • getHeaders() / getAllHeaders()

resetAllMocks()

Re-export of vi.clearAllMocks(). Call from beforeEach to clear call history between tests.

Why not install everything automatically?

Setup files are the right home for test-bed configuration; auto-installing via module side-effect breaks mental model and makes ordering tricky. Call installGasGlobals() explicitly — it's one line.
