Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Elasticsearch Wrapper for Adonis.js

Readme

Adonis.js Elasticsearch Wrapper

This package is a wrapper for the official elasticsearch-js client.

The connection strategy is similar to Adonis.js Lucid, providing a familiar API for managing single or multiple Elasticsearch connections.

Installation

Install the package from the npm registry as follows:

npm install @dunhamjared/adonis-elasticsearch

Then, you must run the following command to configure the package:

node ace configure @dunhamjared/adonis-elasticsearch

[!NOTE] The configure command will automatically attempt to install the latest stable version of @elastic/elasticsearch as a peer dependency. If you require a specific version, please install it manually before running the configure command.

Compatibility

This package is compatible with the following versions:

  • AdonisJS: v6
  • @elastic/elasticsearch: v8.x, v9.x

[!NOTE] It is recommended that the @elastic/elasticsearch client version matches your Elasticsearch server version (e.g. use client v8 for server v8). Language clients are forward compatible (support communicating with greater or equal minor versions). For more details, see the official installation documentation.

Configuration

The configuration is stored inside the config/elasticsearch.ts file.

import { defineConfig } from '@dunhamjared/adonis-elasticsearch'
import env from '#start/env'

const esConfig = defineConfig({
  connection: env.get('ES_CONNECTION', 'main'),
  connections: {
    main: {
      node: env.get('ES_NODE_URL', 'http://localhost:9200'),
    },
  },
})

export default esConfig

See the official documentation for more configuration options.

Basic Usage

Get Client

Here's how you can get the elasticsearch client instance.

import es from '@dunhamjared/adonis-elasticsearch/services/main'

const client = es.client()

Search query with pagination

const posts = await es.client().search({
  index: 'posts',
  from: (page - 1) * limit,
  size: limit,
  query: {
    match_all: {},
  },
})

Insert query

const results = await es.client().index({
  index: 'posts',
  body: {
    title,
    description,
  },
})

Update query

const results = await es.client().update({
  index: 'posts',
  id: '1',
  body: {
    doc: {
      title,
      description,
    },
  },
})

Delete query

const results = await es.client().delete({
  index: 'posts',
  id: '1',
})

Health Check

const health = await es.client().cluster.health()

See the official documentation for more query options.

Switching between connections

You can switch between connections by passing the connection name to the connection method.

import es from '@dunhamjared/adonis-elasticsearch/services/main'

const example = es.connection('example')

await example.get({
  index: 'items',
  id: '1',
})

Closing connections

You can close a specific connection by calling the close method. This will disconnect the client, but keep the configuration in the manager.

Note: All connections are automatically closed at the end of the application lifecycle.

import es from '@dunhamjared/adonis-elasticsearch/services/main'

// Close the default connection
await es.close()

// Close a specific connection
await es.close('example')

// Close all connections
await es.closeAll()

Releasing connections

You can release a specific connection by calling the release method. This will disconnect the client and remove the configuration from the manager.

import es from '@dunhamjared/adonis-elasticsearch/services/main'

// Release the default connection
await es.release()

// Release a specific connection
await es.release('example')
