Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

VueKeepAliveDev

This plugin resolves an issue where webpack's Hot Module Replacement (MHR) doesn't work for keep-alive components (e.g. router-view, etc).

Credit

Full credit to nailfar & ericwu-wish in https://github.com/vuejs/vue-loader/issues/1332 for this entire solution. I just packaged it up to make this easier as I was struggling to deal with the suggested workarounds that just disable keep-alive in development with exclude patterns or a dynamic component. I quickly noticed that this creates a completely different hook flow where the created/activated/deactived/destroyed hooks would have be tuned based on local vs production and it was getting ugly!

Installation

1. Install

yarn add vue-keep-alive-dev
# or
npm i vue-keep-alive-dev --save

2. Activate

import VueKeepAliveDev from 'vue-keep-alive-dev'

Vue.use(VueKeepAliveDev, {
  environment: 'development' // Your environment when HMR is in use
});

3. Run

In your package.json ensure that the NODE_ENV lines up with whatever you're setting when compiling Vue.

Example:

{
  "scripts": {
    "dev": "cross-env NODE_ENV=development node_modules/webpack-dev-server/bin/webpack-dev-server.js --progress --inline --hot --config=webpack.config.js"
  }
}

Configuration

  • environment - The NODE_ENV when HMR is in use. Defaults to development.
