Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Google play api

Readme

@efffrida/gplayapi

Unofficial Google Play Store API for downloading APKs directly from the Google Play Store.

The store's protobuf endpoints are exposed as effects: details and bulkDetails for app metadata, purchase and delivery for acquiring a download token, and downloadToStreams and downloadToDisk for pulling down the APK along with its splits and expansion files.

Example usage

import { NodeHttpClient, NodeServices } from "@effect/platform-node";
import { GooglePlayApi, PlayAccount } from "@efffrida/gplayapi";
import { Effect, Layer } from "effect";

const PlayLive = Layer.mergeAll(
    GooglePlayApi.AndroidDevice.EmbeddedPixel7aLive,
    NodeHttpClient.layerUndici,
    PlayAccount.layerConfig()
).pipe(Layer.provideMerge(NodeServices.layer));

const program = Effect.gen(function* () {
    const { item } = yield* GooglePlayApi.details("com.nimblebit.tinytower");
    yield* Effect.log(`${item?.title} ${item?.details?.appDetails?.versionString}`);

    const files = yield* GooglePlayApi.downloadToDisk("com.nimblebit.tinytower");
    // ...
}).pipe(Effect.scoped, Effect.provide(PlayLive));

Services

Three things have to be provided.

A device, which decides the hardware fingerprint the store sees, and therefore which builds it will offer. AndroidDevice.EmbeddedPixel7aLive ships with the package; other devices can be built from an Aurora store style properties file with AndroidDevice.fromPropertiesFile.

An HttpClient, from whichever platform package suits the runtime.

A PlayAccount, which decides how google play credentials are obtained. There is no default, so pick one of:

  • layerAuroraDispenser(url?) hands out anonymous credentials from an Aurora store compatible dispenser, https://auroraoss.com/api/auth by default. The hosted one blocks and rate limits datacenter ip ranges, so it is a poor fit for anything running on cloud infrastructure.
  • layerConfig({email?, token?}) reads credentials that were obtained out of band from the config provider, defaulting to the GPLAY_EMAIL and GPLAY_AUTH_TOKEN environment variables.
  • layerStatic(credentials) serves credentials that are already in hand.

Auth headers are derived from the device and the account once, then cached for 30 minutes. A 401 or a 403 from the store evicts them early, so the next call acquires a fresh set.
