Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MCP server for Apple Mail via NSAppleScript

Readme

@egorkurito/apple-mail-mcp

MCP server for Apple Mail on macOS. Provides read-only access to mail accounts, mailboxes, and messages through the Model Context Protocol.

Uses a two-layer architecture: TypeScript MCP server communicates with a Swift CLI binary (mail-bridge) that interfaces with Mail.app via NSAppleScript.

Requirements

  • macOS 13+ (Ventura or later)
  • Node.js 18+
  • Xcode Command Line Tools (xcode-select --install)
  • Mail.app configured with at least one account

Installation

Claude Desktop / Claude Code

Add to your MCP configuration:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "apple-mail": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@egorkurito/apple-mail-mcp"]
    }
  }
}

Global install

npm install -g @egorkurito/apple-mail-mcp

Then configure MCP:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "apple-mail": {
      "command": "apple-mail-mcp"
    }
  }
}

Manual (with custom binary path)

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "apple-mail": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["/path/to/build/index.js"],
      "env": {
        "MAIL_BRIDGE_BIN": "/path/to/swift/.build/release/mail-bridge"
      }
    }
  }
}

Available Tools

| Tool | Description | |------|-------------| | get_mail_accounts | List all mail accounts (name, email, type, enabled) | | get_mailboxes | List mailboxes with unread/message counts and nested folders | | get_messages | Get message headers from a mailbox with pagination (newest first) | | get_message | Get full message content including body, recipients, and attachments | | get_unread_messages | List unread messages across all accounts or filtered by account/mailbox | | search_mail | Search messages by subject or sender |

Permissions

On first run, macOS will ask you to grant automation permissions. Go to:

System Settings > Privacy & Security > Automation and allow mail-bridge (or Terminal/iTerm) to control Mail.app.

Troubleshooting

"Mail.app access denied" (-1743) Grant automation permissions in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Automation.

Empty results Make sure Mail.app is running and at least one account is connected.

Swift build fails during install Ensure Xcode Command Line Tools are installed: xcode-select --install

Slow queries Reduce the limit parameter or specify a specific account/mailbox to narrow the search.
