Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@eherve/angular-material-datatable

Angular Material datatable library with server-side filtering, sorting, pagination, facets, configurable columns and XLSX export.

Workspace

The library lives in projects/datatable inside the angular-material-extended workspace. Build and test it from the workspace root.

npm run test:datatable
npm run build:datatable

Publishing is intentionally separate and should only be run when a new package version is ready:

npm run publish:datatable

Datasource contract

A datatable receives a NgxMatDatasourceService<Record> and sends NgxMatDatasourceRequestOptions containing the visible/requested columns, ordering, pagination, search and optional facets.

The main request fields are:

  • draw: request identifier echoed by the datasource response;
  • columns: requested properties and optional projection/search metadata;
  • order: indexes into columns with asc / desc direction;
  • start: page index, not a row offset;
  • length: page size;
  • search: optional global search;
  • facets: optional indicator aggregations.

The companion mongoose-datatable backend converts pagination to a MongoDB offset using start * length.

Searchable columns may expose a backend search type through columns[].type. The library infers it for unambiguous column types: text -> string, number / duration -> number, checkbox -> boolean, and date -> date. Use the public searchType column option for ambiguous searchable types such as select or autocomplete, or when a searchProperty needs an explicit backend type such as objectid. When searchProperty differs from the displayed property, the displayed column keeps its own inferred type and searchType is applied only to the effective search column.

A datasource response contains draw, recordsFiltered, data, optional facets, and may also provide unfiltered total information when supported by the datasource.

Projection expressions

projection accepts datasource-specific projection values. With mongoose-datatable, MongoDB aggregation expressions are supported, for example:

{
  data: 'itemCount',
  projection: { $size: { $ifNull: ['$items', []] } },
}

Runtime dependencies

Angular framework packages and the external libraries used directly by this package are declared as peer dependencies so the consuming Angular application keeps a single compatible runtime instance.
