Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Reusable React editor UI for the open Eidos File format

Readme

@eidos.space/eidos-file-ui

React provider, view host, and reusable editors for the open Eidos File format.

Install

pnpm add @eidos.space/[email protected] \
  @eidos.space/[email protected] \
  @glideapps/glide-data-grid marked@^4 react react-dom

Import the precompiled stylesheet once. Consumers do not need Tailwind.

import "@eidos.space/eidos-file-ui/styles.css"

Embed a view host

Create an EidosFileSession with a host adapter, then provide it to React.

import { useMemo } from "react"
import { EidosFileSession } from "@eidos.space/eidos-file"
import {
  EidosFileBrowserRuntime,
  IndexedDbEidosFileRecoveryStore,
} from "@eidos.space/eidos-file/browser"
import {
  EidosFileProvider,
  EidosFileViewHost,
} from "@eidos.space/eidos-file-ui"
import "@eidos.space/eidos-file-ui/styles.css"

export function Editor() {
  const session = useMemo(
    () =>
      new EidosFileSession(
        new EidosFileBrowserRuntime(),
        new IndexedDbEidosFileRecoveryStore()
      ),
    []
  )

  return (
    <EidosFileProvider session={session} themeName="light">
      <EidosFileViewHost />
    </EidosFileProvider>
  )
}

The host owns file selection, session cleanup, view switching, and conflict UI. The view host owns only rendering and public data operations.

Build a view

Custom views receive a typed table, persisted view descriptor, normalized query, async data source, selection, local view state, commands, and explicit capabilities.

import {
  defineEidosFileView,
  type EidosFileViewRendererProps,
} from "@eidos.space/eidos-file-ui"

function Timeline({ source, table, query }: EidosFileViewRendererProps) {
  // Page through source.getPage(table.table.id, …, query).
  return <section aria-label={`${table.table.name} timeline`} />
}

export const timeline = defineEidosFileView({
  type: "timeline",
  label: "Timeline",
  description: "Group records by date",
  renderer: Timeline,
  create: { defaultName: "Timeline" },
})

Register the renderer directly or include it in a trusted plugin:

<EidosFileViewHost renderers={{ timeline: timeline.renderer }} />

Persisted view type keys round-trip even when a renderer is unavailable.

Trust and capabilities

React views are trusted, statically imported host code. This package is not an extension sandbox. The props contract intentionally does not expose raw file bytes, native filesystem access, SQLite, application routes, stores, or IPC. capabilities.rawFile and capabilities.nativeFileSystem are always false.

Styles and theme

styles.css contains the utilities used by the package and scoped Eidos theme tokens. EidosFileProvider applies the [data-eidos-file-root] boundary and supports themeName="light" | "dark". Hosts can override CSS variables on that element without copying Eidos global CSS.
