Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Ekstra command-line tool — login, manage API keys, and bootstrap projects with AI-assistant context

Readme

@ekstraai/cli

The Ekstra command-line tool. Authenticate, manage API keys, and bootstrap projects with AI-coding-assistant context — all from your terminal.

$ npm install -g @ekstraai/cli
$ ekstra login
$ ekstra init

What it does

| Command | What | |---|---| | ekstra login | 6-digit email code flow. Stores session under ~/.ekstra/session.json. | | ekstra whoami | Show the current logged-in identity. | | ekstra logout | Clear the local session. | | ekstra keys create <name> | Create an API key. Prints the token once. | | ekstra keys list | List your API keys. | | ekstra keys revoke <id> | Revoke an API key. | | ekstra docs | Print the developer context pack (llms-full.txt) to stdout. | | ekstra docs --open | Open the web docs in your browser. | | ekstra init | Bootstrap an Ekstra project in the current directory. |

ekstra init — the killer command

Run this in any project directory:

ekstra init

It will:

  1. Log you in if you're not already (6-digit email code flow)
  2. Fetch llms-full.txt (the 886-line developer context pack) and write it to CLAUDE.md so any AI coding assistant — Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Zed, Windsurf — instantly knows how to use the Ekstra API correctly
  3. Create a project API key scoped to this project and store it in .ekstra/config.json + .env.local
  4. Add .ekstra/config.json and .env.local to .gitignore so you don't accidentally commit credentials
  5. Also write .cursorrules and .windsurfrules for IDE-specific AI assistants
  6. Print next-step copy-paste curls so you can verify the API works in 5 seconds

After ekstra init, ask your AI assistant something like:

Build a parking app that uses the Ekstra curb-rules API.

It will write working code on the first try because it has the entire Ekstra reference in CLAUDE.md.

Flags

ekstra init                    Full bootstrap (recommended)
ekstra init --no-key Skip API key creation (for read-only apps)
ekstra init --no-sdk Skip SDK install hint at the end

Environment

| Var | Default | Purpose | |---|---|---| | EKSTRA_BASE_URL | https://ekstra.ai | Override for staging / local dev | | EKSTRA_API_KEY | (set by init) | Read by SDKs in your project |

Session storage

Session lives at ~/.ekstra/session.json with mode 0600. Project config + key live at .ekstra/config.json + .env.local in the project root, both gitignored automatically.
