Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.23.0

Natively multi-tenant Workflow World for the Vercel Workflow SDK, plus the dispatcher that drives it out of process

Readme

@evelandhq/workflow-world

A multi-tenant Workflow SDK World backed by PostgreSQL, with a dispatcher for executors that scale to zero.

Experimental, 0.x. This package has not carried production traffic yet.

Quick start

Requires Node.js 24+ and PostgreSQL. Install in an existing Workflow SDK app:

npm install @evelandhq/workflow-world

Follow the integration guide to configure the SDK and provision the database and tenant.

To try a working app, use the standalone Next.js example. It uses the published package and an embedded runner, with no Eve or activation service required. The example pins its own verified package and SDK versions.

git clone https://github.com/evelandhq/workflow-world.git
cd workflow-world/examples/nextjs
npm ci
cp .env.example .env.local

Set WORKFLOW_WORLD_URL in .env.local to a dedicated development database (the example includes Docker setup). Then:

npm run setup
npm run dev

Setup applies migrations, initializes Graphile, and provisions the tenant's partitions. In another terminal, run npm run smoke from examples/nextjs to verify a workflow completes with Hello, World!.

For executors that scale to zero, follow the external runner setup. See the documentation index for configuration, operations, and architecture.

Development

Requires Node.js 24+, the pinned pnpm version, and a disposable PostgreSQL database for integration tests. From a fresh checkout:

git clone https://github.com/evelandhq/workflow-world.git
cd workflow-world
npm install --global [email protected]
pnpm install --frozen-lockfile
pnpm run build

For a local test database (requires Docker):

docker run --rm --name workflow-world-dev \
  -e POSTGRES_USER=wfw -e POSTGRES_PASSWORD=wfw -e POSTGRES_DB=wfw_test \
  -p 127.0.0.1:5433:5432 -d postgres:17-alpine
docker exec workflow-world-dev pg_isready -U wfw -d wfw_test

Once PostgreSQL reports that it is accepting connections, run:

pnpm run typecheck
EVELAND_WORKFLOW_WORLD_TEST_URL=postgres://wfw:[email protected]:5433/wfw_test pnpm test

The tests apply migrations and provision their own tenants. With an existing test database, substitute its URL. Stop the disposable database with docker stop workflow-world-dev; this removes its test data.

See development and contributing for dependency management and checks, and testing for conformance, Eve E2E, and long-step lease checks.

Contributing

Open an issue or pull request describing the problem, the proposed change, and how it was verified. Follow the contribution guide and use conventional commit messages. Release procedures are documented in Releasing.
