Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@exactjs/create-exact-app

Interactive project scaffolder for eXact applications.

Create an application

npm create @exactjs/exact-app@latest

Generated applications use matching compiler and runtime dependencies from the 0.7 package family.

The CLI can configure Vite, Webpack, or Bun, browser-only or server runtime adapters, and Vitest, Jest, or Bun tests. It also offers optional React compatibility, dependency installation, and the portable eXact agent skill. The generated skill lives in .agents/skills/exact-web-development. For Claude Code, expose it through .claude/skills/exact-web-development using the agent skill installation guide.

Automated use

npm create --yes @exactjs/exact-app@latest my-app -- \
	--bundler vite \
	--runtime hapi \
	--test-runner vitest \
	--react 19 \
	--skill --yes

The first --yes accepts npm's package-download prompt. The last accepts scaffolder defaults. Add --no-install to generate files without installing dependencies.

Run with --help for all flags. The target directory must be empty apart from an optional .git directory.

Generated projects use exactc --check --project tsconfig.json for no-emit application checking. This checks ordinary TypeScript as well as the lowered representation of compiler-owned TSX syntax.

Check and build

After installation, run npm run typecheck, npm test (if tests were selected), and npm run build. The browser output is in dist/. Vite also provides npm run preview. npm run dev serves the browser app. With Bun, refresh after source edits are rebuilt.

A Vite server runtime defaults to SSR plus hydration, generated registration, a continuation endpoint, assets, and a production host. Generated SSR documents load their bootstrap after window load. In src/application.tsx, documentAssets.bootstrapLoading: "normal" selects earlier loading. Run npm start after building. Node output includes a container example and source-workspace guidance. Fetch and serverless outputs export deployment handlers. Local development uses Node. Validate platform bindings in the selected runtime. Use --operations-only for a transport-only starter, including Webpack or Bun server projects. The CLI rejects unsupported SSR selections early and explains which flags to use. --yes accepts the runtime-based delivery default without prompting.

For one offline browser file, use --output single-file --runtime browser --bundler vite. Open dist/index.html directly. Scripts, styles, imported images, and fonts are embedded. Hash navigation works without a server. Import assets through Vite. Unresolved assets, remote CSS/modules, separate workers, and server operations are rejected. File-origin browser API limits still apply.

See the scaffolding reference for output contracts and deployment boundaries.
