Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@fab4m/routerforms

The @fab4m/routerforms package integrates your fab4m forms with React router. This allows you to render multipage forms as react router routes!

Installing

Install the @fab4m/routerforms and the react-router-dom packages. Only react router 6 is supported:

npm install --save @fab4m/routerforms react-router-dom@6

Setting it up

Create your form just as any other fab4m form, and then you use the RouterFormView component from this package instead of the FormView. This will set your form up with a React browser router that then allows the user to navigate between the form pages using the browser url.

import * as React from "react";
import { createForm, textField, pageBreak } from "@fab4m/fab4m";
import { FormRoute } from "@fab4m/routerforms";

const form = createForm({
  text: textField({ label: "First field", required: true }),
  pagebreak: pageBreak(),
  nextText: textField({ label: "Second field" }),
});

export default function RouterExample() {
  const [data, setData] = React.useState({});
  const [submitted, setSubmitted] = React.useState(false);
  form.onDataChange(setData).onSubmit((e) => {
    e.preventDefault();
    setSubmitted(true);
  });
  return (
    <div>
      {submitted && <p>Thanks for your response!</p>}
      <FormRoute basePath="/basic-example" form={form} data={data} />
    </div>
  );
}

Usage with an existing router

If you have an exising react router app you can integrate your form within that router by using the FormRoute or, if you don't want to handle state by yourself, the StatefulFormRoute compnent.

Integrating with Remix/React router actions

Fab4m router forms have support for react router actions, you can use a fab4m form as you would with any React router <Form>.

import { createForm, textField, pageBreak } from "@fab4m/fab4m";
import { RouteObject } from "react-router-dom";
import { StatefulFormRoute } from "@fab4m/routerforms";

const form = createForm({
  text: textField({ label: "First field", required: true }),
  pagebreak: pageBreak(),
  nextText: textField({ label: "Second field" }),
});

export const route: RouteObject = {
  path: "/route-forms/:part",
  action: async ({ request }) => {
    const formData = await request.formData();
    const data = Object.fromEntries(formData);
    console.log(data);
  },
  element: (
    <StatefulFormRoute
      form={form}
      basePath="/route-forms"
      useRouteAction={true}
    />
  ),
};
