Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

React + Tailwind CSS v4 component library implementing the Fanzeal design system.

Design source of truth: Fanzeal Design System (Figma).

Requirements

  • Node >= 22
  • pnpm

Development

pnpm install
pnpm storybook # live component playground at http://localhost:6006
pnpm test # run the test suite once
pnpm test:watch # run tests in watch mode
pnpm lint            # ESLint
pnpm typecheck       # tsc --noEmit
pnpm build # build the library to dist/
pnpm build-storybook # static Storybook build

Usage

Published as @fanzeal-intl/ui.

import { Button } from '@fanzeal-intl/ui';

function Example() {
  return <Button variant="primary">Continue</Button>;
}

src/styles/tokens.css is raw, unprocessed Tailwind v4 source (@import 'tailwindcss', @theme, @layer components) — it is not a stylesheet you side-effect-import from a .tsx file. Import it from your own app's CSS entry file instead, i.e. wherever you already run Tailwind (e.g. app/globals.css):

/* app/globals.css (or wherever your Tailwind entry file lives) */
@import '@fanzeal-intl/ui/styles/tokens.css';

Treat @fanzeal-intl/ui/styles/tokens.css as your Tailwind entry point, not an addition to one. It already does @import 'tailwindcss' internally, so if your own entry file also imports tailwindcss separately, you'll get Tailwind's base styles and utilities twice (duplicated resets, bloated output, and possible specificity surprises). Import Tailwind exactly once — through this file.

The design system defaults to dark mode. Add a .light class to <html> (or any ancestor) to opt into light mode.

Architecture

  • Tokens: src/styles/tokens.css — Tailwind v4 @theme, mirrors Figma variable names exactly.

  • Components: src/components/<name>/ — each ships a component file, a colocated Code Connect mapping (.figma.tsx), a Storybook story, and tests.

  • Component API convention: Figma visual-style/size variants become CVA-driven props; Figma interaction-state variants (Hover/Disabled) become real CSS, never props; Figma TEXT content properties become children; Figma BOOLEAN + INSTANCE_SWAP slot pairs become a single optional prop.

    asChild + slot content requires Slottable. Any component that combines an asChild-style polymorphic prop (via @radix-ui/react-slot) with optional sibling slot content (e.g. Button's icon) must wrap children in Radix's Slottable, not a plain <>...</> Fragment. Slot's SlotClone clones the merged className/ref/handlers onto whatever occupies the Slottable position; a bare Fragment only forwards key/children, so those merged props are silently dropped and the consumer's rendered element (e.g. an <a> from asChild) loses its styling and ref. See src/components/button/button.tsx for the reference implementation. Expect this to recur in every future component that pairs asChild with slot content — build it in from the start rather than rediscovering it via a failing test.

See docs/superpowers/specs/2026-08-07-ui-library-foundation-design.md for the full design rationale.
