Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Babel preset to transform ReScript code to solidJs.

Readme

babel-preset-rescript-solidjs

Applies all necessary transformations to compile ReScript code to solidJs.

The original code compiled by ReScript is not compatible with solid. First, the ReScript compiler breaks reactivity by reassigning component properties to variables. And second, solid compiler expects JSX, but ReScript compiles all JSX directly to JavaScript.

This preset replaces the variable assignments and transforms the ReScript JavaScript code back to JSX. Afterwards it runs the preset provided by solid to compile the code.

Installation

$ npm install @fattafatta/babel-preset-rescript-solidjs --save-dev

# or

yarn add @fattafatta/babel-preset-rescript-solidjs --dev

Usage

The plugin supports JSX versions 3 and 4 with automatic version detection.

Via config file

Add this to your .babelrc:

{
  "presets": ["@fattafatta/babel-preset-rescript-solidjs"]
}

With vite

Install vite-plugin-babel and @jihchi/vite-plugin-rescript:

npm install vite-plugin-babel @jihchi/vite-plugin-rescript --save-dev

# or
yarn add vite-plugin-babel @jihchi/vite-plugin-rescript --dev

Configure vite.config.js

import { defineConfig } from "vite";
import createReScriptPlugin from "@jihchi/vite-plugin-rescript";
import babel from "vite-plugin-babel";

export default defineConfig({
  plugins: [
    createReScriptPlugin(),
    babel({
      babelConfig: {
        presets: ["@fattafatta/babel-preset-rescript-solidjs"],
      },
    }),
  ],
  resolve: {
    dedupe: ['solid-js'],
  },
});

Note: Sometimes vite bundles parts of the solidJS dependencies twice, which results in errors (like lazy components not loading correctly). If you get the warning You appear to have multiple instances of Solid. This can lead to unexpected behavior., use the option resolve.dedupe like above and the problem should be fixed.

The babel plugin works with either the .babelrc file or by passing the config directly.

Via CLI

Make sure to use the correct file extension when transforming files. ReScript files end on .bs.js. But JSX files should use .jsx.

babel --no-babelrc --presets @fattafatta/babel-preset-rescript-solidjs script.bs.js > script.jsx
