Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MCP client wrapper for Faxify MCP server - bridges stdio (Cursor) to HTTP (Next.js)

Readme

@faxify/mcp-client

MCP client wrapper for Faxify MCP server. Bridges stdio (Cursor, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT Desktop, and other MCP-compatible AI applications) to HTTP (Next.js MCP server).

New: The Faxify MCP server now supports OAuth authentication! ChatGPT Web and Desktop apps in developer mode can connect directly by specifying the MCP URL and following an OAuth sequence (Google/Apple SSO or Email/OTP) to use the Faxify connector right from these tools.

Resources

Installation

npm install -g @faxify/mcp-client

Or install locally:

npm install @faxify/mcp-client

Usage

For Cursor

Edit ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "Faxify": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@faxify/mcp-client"],
      "env": {
        "FAXIFY_MCP_URL": "https://mcp.faxify.com/api/v1/mcp",
        "FAXIFY_JWT_TOKEN": "YOUR_JWT_TOKEN_HERE"
      }
    }
  }
}

For Claude Desktop

Edit ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json (Mac) or %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json (Windows):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "Faxify": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@faxify/mcp-client"],
      "env": {
        "FAXIFY_MCP_URL": "https://mcp.faxify.com/api/v1/mcp",
        "FAXIFY_JWT_TOKEN": "YOUR_JWT_TOKEN_HERE"
      }
    }
  }
}

For ChatGPT Desktop (Developer Mode)

ChatGPT Desktop in developer mode supports direct MCP server connections with OAuth authentication:

  1. Enable Developer Mode in ChatGPT Desktop settings
  2. Go to MCP settings/configuration
  3. Add a new MCP server with:
    • MCP URL: https://mcp.faxify.com/api/v1/mcp
  4. Follow the OAuth authentication flow:
    • Click connect/authorize
    • Choose your preferred login method:
      • Google SSO: Sign in with your Google account
      • Apple SSO: Sign in with your Apple ID
      • Email/OTP: Enter your email and verify with the one-time password
  5. Once authenticated, the Faxify connector (MCP server) will be available directly in ChatGPT Desktop

Note: After completing the OAuth flow, restart ChatGPT Desktop for the changes to take effect.

For ChatGPT Web App (Developer Mode)

ChatGPT Web App in developer mode supports direct MCP server connections with OAuth authentication:

  1. Enable Developer Mode in your ChatGPT account settings
  2. Go to ChatGPT Settings
  3. Navigate to Integrations or Model Context Protocol section
  4. Add a new MCP server with:
    • MCP URL: https://mcp.faxify.com/api/v1/mcp
  6. Once authenticated, the Faxify connector (MCP server) will be available directly in the ChatGPT Web App

Note: OAuth authentication provides a seamless connection experience without requiring manual JWT token management.

For Other MCP-Compatible Applications

Any AI application that supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) can use Faxify MCP. The configuration follows the same pattern across all MCP-compatible clients.

Common MCP-compatible applications include:

  • Continue.dev (VS Code extension)
  • Aider (CLI coding assistant)
  • Other MCP-compatible clients

Generic Configuration Pattern:

Most MCP clients use a JSON configuration file with the following structure:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "Faxify": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@faxify/mcp-client"],
      "env": {
        "FAXIFY_MCP_URL": "https://mcp.faxify.com/api/v1/mcp",
        "FAXIFY_JWT_TOKEN": "YOUR_JWT_TOKEN_HERE"
      }
    }
  }
}

Configuration file locations by application:

  • Continue.dev: Usually in VS Code settings or ~/.continue/config.json
  • Aider: Check Aider's documentation for MCP configuration file location
  • Other tools: Refer to your specific application's MCP documentation

Note: After updating your configuration file, restart the application for changes to take effect.

Environment Variables

  • FAXIFY_MCP_URL - MCP server URL (default: https://mcp.faxify.com/api/v1/mcp)
  • FAXIFY_JWT_TOKEN - JWT token for authentication (get from Settings → MCP Configuration)

Getting Started

First, create an account:

Authentication Methods

For ChatGPT Web & Desktop (Developer Mode):

The Faxify MCP server now supports OAuth authentication, providing a seamless connection experience:

  1. Simply specify the MCP URL: https://mcp.faxify.com/api/v1/mcp in your ChatGPT settings
  2. Follow the OAuth authentication flow:
    • Sign in with Google SSO, Apple SSO, or Email/OTP
  3. Once authenticated, start using the Faxify connector directly from ChatGPT

For Cursor, Claude Desktop, and other MCP clients:

These clients still require JWT token authentication:

  1. Log in to Faxify MCP
  2. Go to Settings → MCP Configuration
  3. Copy your JWT token
  4. Add it to your MCP client configuration

How It Works

This wrapper script bridges two different transport mechanisms:

  1. MCP-Compatible AI Clients (Cursor, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Continue.dev, Aider, etc.) - Uses stdio (stdin/stdout) for MCP communication
  2. Faxify MCP Server - Runs as HTTP endpoint on Next.js/Vercel

The wrapper:

  • Reads JSON-RPC requests from stdin (line-delimited JSON)
  • Makes HTTP POST requests to the MCP server
  • Writes responses back to stdout
