Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@feedbakkr/watch-web

v0.2.3

Published

Browser SDK for capturing errors and forwarding them to a Feedbakkr Watch collector.

Readme

@feedbakkr/watch-web

Browser SDK for Feedbakkr Watch. Captures uncaught errors, unhandled rejections, and explicit captures, then forwards them to your self-hosted (or managed) collector.

pnpm add @feedbakkr/watch-web

Initialise

Call once at the top of your app entry — ideally before any other client code runs, so errors during boot are caught.

import { initFeedbakkrErrors } from "@feedbakkr/watch-web";

initFeedbakkrErrors({
	endpoint: "https://errors.example.com/v1/events",
	projectId: "feedbakkr-web",
	environment: "production",
	appVersion: "1.0.0",
	apiKey: import.meta.env.VITE_FBK_ERRORS_KEY,
});

Capture explicitly

import { addBreadcrumb, captureError, captureMessage } from "@feedbakkr/watch-web";

addBreadcrumb({ category: "ui", message: "Opened inbox" });

try {
	await doRiskyThing();
} catch (e) {
	captureError(e, {
		tags: { feature: "inbox" },
		context: { workspaceId, projectId },
	});
}

React error boundary

Available behind a subpath import so the bundle stays free of React if you don't need it:

import { FeedbakkrErrorBoundary } from "@feedbakkr/watch-web/react";

<FeedbakkrErrorBoundary fallback={<ErrorScreen />}>
	<App />
</FeedbakkrErrorBoundary>;

Or use the HOC: withErrorBoundary(Component, { fallback }).

Options

| Option | Default | What it does | | --- | --- | --- | | endpoint | — | Worker /v1/events URL. | | projectId | — | Stable identifier per project. | | environment | — | production, staging, etc. | | appVersion | — | Recommended; correlates errors to releases. | | apiKey | — | Sent as x-feedbakkr-tool-key. | | enabled | true | Set false in tests. | | debug | false | Logs internal failures via console.debug. | | maxBreadcrumbs | 30 | Cap on retained breadcrumbs. | | sampleRate | 1 | 0–1 fraction sent. | | captureUnhandledErrors | true | window.error listener. | | captureUnhandledRejections | true | window.unhandledrejection listener. | | captureNavigation | false | Auto-breadcrumb on history changes. | | beforeSend | — | (event) => event \| null filter/mutate. |

Privacy by default

The SDK never reads cookies, request bodies, form values, or auth headers. Tags and context are sanitised — keys matching authorization, cookie, password, token, api_key, email, session*, etc. are replaced with [REDACTED] before send.

Full list and sanitisation rules: security-and-privacy.md.

Fail-safe

Capture never throws into your app. Network failures, malformed responses, and beforeSend exceptions are all swallowed (and logged via debug when enabled).
