Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@filter-enginez/url-state-router

react-router URL serialization for filter state. <FilterEngineUrlSync> keeps one query parameter and the engine in sync both ways: filter changes replace the history entry by default (historyMode), and with routeChangeMode set, the current filter state is re-attached when the app navigates to another route whose URL lacks the parameter. Origin-tracking prevents engine ↔ URL ↔ engine loops, and recognizes the component's own writes even when an app that navigates inside React transitions renders them out of order; Back, Forward and links always load. Three serializers — json-base64 (opaque), compact (lz-string, shortest) and human-readable (the config as plain JSON) — plus createTaggedSerializer, which prefixes the format so one URL parameter can carry any of them. Browser-only.

Install

pnpm add @filter-enginez/url-state-router

Peer dependencies: react@>=19.2.7, react-router@^8.3.0 — supplied by your app.

Sub-exports: @filter-enginez/url-state-router/serializers.

Errors

A serializer's decode throws FilterEngineConfigError with code URL_STATE_MALFORMED for a truncated, corrupt or untagged URL value, with the parser's own error as cause; resolveSerializer throws URL_STATE_UNKNOWN_SERIALIZER for a name that is not a built-in. FilterEngineUrlSync hands a failed decode to onError and, by default, leaves the engine unchanged.

Documentation

Consumer guides live in the engine repository under docs/guides/:

  • extending_rules.md — writing a custom FilterRule that survives serialization
  • json_config.md — declaring filters as data, and why the format is safe to accept from a tenant
  • acceleration_tuning.md — what the five acceleration toggles are worth, measured
  • worker_offload.md — running the engine in a Web Worker
