Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

TypeScript animation engine in a kilobyte-sized package

Readme

flæði

flæði (Old Norse for flow) is a high-performance, kilobyte-sized animation engine designed for the modern web. It provides a functional, promise-based approach to motion without the bloat of traditional animation libraries.

npm version TypeScript Bundle Size

Features

  • ⚡ Ultra-lightweight: Sub-1KB gzipped core for maximum performance.
  • ⏳ Promise-based: Native support for async/await chaining, enabling clean animation sequencing.
  • 🧮 Mathematically Dense: A comprehensive suite of high-precision easing functions.
  • 🎯 Surgical Precision: Directly modifies object properties to bypass framework overhead.
  • 🛡️ SSR Safe: Built-in environment guards to ensure safe execution in Node.js/SSR contexts.
  • 🧹 Explicit Cleanup: Every animation returns a stop() method to prevent memory leaks and hanging promises.

Installation

npm install @fimbul-works/flaedi

Quick Start

Basic Tweening

Tween any numeric property of an object (like a Seiðr observable) with ease.

import { tween } from '@fimbul-works/flaedi';
import { easeOutElastic } from '@fimbul-works/flaedi/easing';

const player = { x: 0, y: 0 };

// Move the player to x: 100 over 500ms
const animation = tween(player, 'x', 100, 500, easeOutElastic);

// Stop manually if needed
animation.stop();

Async Chaining

Use async/await to create complex, frame-perfect sequences without callback hell.

const entrance = async () => {
  // Fade in
  await tween(ui, 'opacity', 1, 300);

  // Then slide up
  await tween(ui, 'y', 0, 500, easeOutBack);

  console.log("Animation sequence complete!");
};

Easing Functions

flaedi comes with a rich assortment of easing functions. You can import them individually to keep your bundle size minimal.

import {
  linear,
  easeInQuad,
  easeOutQuad,
  easeInOutQuad,
  easeInCubic,
  easeOutCubic,
  easeInOutCubic,
  easeInQuart,
  easeOutQuart,
  easeInOutQuart,
  easeInQuint,
  easeOutQuint,
  easeInOutQuint,
  easeInExpo,
  easeOutExpo,
  easeInOutExpo,
  easeInElastic,
  easeOutElastic,
  easeInOutElastic,
  easeInBounce,
  easeOutBounce,
  easeInOutBounce,
  easeInBack,
  easeOutBack,
  easeInOutBack,
  smoothstep,
} from '@fimbul-works/flaedi/easing';

Core Concepts

The Animation Loop

At its heart, flaedi manages a single Set of active animation functions. When the set is empty, the requestAnimationFrame loop automatically stops, saving CPU cycles.

Tween Objects

The tween function is generic and type-safe. It can target any object with a numeric property.
