Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Native (Rust) local filesystem source/sink plugin for pluggable-io-framework, loaded via dynamic-plugin-framework

Key Features

  • A second file provider factory with the native payload kind and the host memory domain. It coexists with io-plugin-filesystem (file with the js kind): both use the same file:///... locations and the caller picks the implementation by payload kind.
  • Reads and writes run on Rust threads. Each reader or writer handle owns one I/O thread feeding or draining a bounded ring of buffers, and the JS side only calls non-blocking entry points, so the event loop is never blocked.
  • Items carry NativePayload buffers allocated by Rust. They reach a native sink without being copied into the JS heap.
  • Readable handles are RangeReadable and FillReadable; writable handles are BufferProvider and ResumableWritable, so a native to native copy takes the engine's lease path and the reader fills the writer's buffers directly.
  • Registers two zero-cost payload converters, native[host] to js and js to native[host], so the registry can bridge this plugin to any js provider when no common kind exists.
  • Locations, getProperties and joinKey behave exactly as in io-plugin-filesystem. There is no listing, deleting, setProperties, container creation, multipart or direct transfer, so container and pattern targets are not supported.
  • The reference template for native providers: the ring, waker and handle model is generic and independent of the filesystem.

Usage

Install the plugin where a pluggable-io-framework host discovers plugins. With both filesystem plugins installed, the payload kind selects the implementation (registry is a discovered ProviderRegistry):

const { source, dest, options } = await registry.createProvidersForTransfer(
  { protocol: "file", location: { path: "/data", filename: "in.bin" } },
  { protocol: "file", location: { path: "/data", filename: "out.bin" } },
  { kind: PayloadKind.Native },
);
await copy(source.provider, source.target, dest.provider, dest.target, options);
