Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MCP Server for FoundrySpec

Readme

FoundrySpec MCP Server

Overview

This is the official Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for FoundrySpec. It acts as a dynamic discoverability layer for the FoundrySpec CLI.

Instead of having a hardcoded list of tools, this server:

  1. Discovers: Runs foundryspec --help at startup to find available commands.
  2. Recurses: Inspects subcommands (like work, gitops) to find all leaf actions.
  3. Exposes: Dynamically registers an MCP tool for every discovered CLI command.
  4. Executes: When a tool is called, it executes the underlying CLI command in your project.

This ensures that the AI agent always has access to the full capabilities of your installed foundryspec CLI version, with zero additional maintenance.

Prerequisites

  • FoundrySpec CLI: Must be installed and available in your environment (npm install -g @foundryspec/core).
  • Node.js: Version 18+ recommended.

Usage

1. Global Installation (Recommended)

Install the server globally:

npm install -g @foundryspec/mcp-server

Configuring Claude Desktop: Add this to your claude_desktop_config.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "foundryspec": {
      "command": "foundryspec-mcp-server",
      "args": ["/absolute/path/to/your/project"]
    }
  }
}

Note: The args array is optional but recommended. If omitted, the server will default to the directory where it was launched.

2. Local Installation

Install locally in your project:

npm install --save-dev @foundryspec/mcp-server

Configuring Claude Desktop:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "foundryspec": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@foundryspec/mcp-server"]
    }
  }
}

Available Tools

The tools exposed to the agent depend on your CLI version. Common tools include:

  • foundry_init: Initialize a new project.
  • foundry_build: Build the documentation site.
  • foundry_probe: Check for architectural drift.
  • foundry_work_list: List work items.
  • foundry_work_reply: Reply to a work item.
  • foundry_work_resolve: Resolve a work item.
  • ...and any other command listed in foundryspec --help!
