Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Frequency Style Guide

Svelte + Storybook + TailwindCSS

Prerequisites

This package is designed to work specifically with Svelte v5 + Tailwind v4 projects.

Index

  1. Installation
  2. Development

Installation

When installing this package into your project, follow the steps below.

  1. Install the style guide package:
npm i @frequency-chain/style-guide
  1. Install and configure Tailwind.
  • Skip the step where you add @import "tailwindcss"; to your css file as it has already been imported in the library.
  1. Edit your app.css file to import the style guide and set the source.
@import '@frequency-chain/style-guide/styles';

/* may need to update path depending on your file structure */
@source '../../node_modules/@frequency-chain/style-guide/**/*.{svelte,js,ts}';

You should now be able to access the Frequency Style Guide Tailwind theme and custom css classes in your Svelte components!

Best Practices

  • Refer to the style guide lib/index.css for all branded classes. Your local project css file, should be close to empty, only importing the style guide and containing project specific styles. This file defines the following:
    • colors
    • gradients
    • fonts
    • font sizes
    • shadows
    • breakpoints
    • form element utilities
    • animations
  • When setting the font size, refer to Text Utilities in lib/index.css.
    <div class="lgText">Hello world</div>
    <div class="xsText">Aside Text</div>
  • When setting the size of anything from width to gaps, refer to Spacing in lib/index.css. The convention is f{pixels}.
    <div class="gap-f12 flex">Hello world</div>
    <div class="h-f40">Hello world</div>
    <div class="p-f32">Hello world</div>

Development

Storybook Quickstart

To spin up the style guide and see what icons, features, atoms, typography, and colors are included, run the commands below.

npm i
npm run storybook
  • In the storybook UI, select a component and view the controls tab to checkout available props.
  • The */stories.svelte files are great examples for how to use each component.

Shadcn Notes

  • Some components are difficult to customize from scratch, leading us to use the Shadcn library.
  • You can view these components in lib/shadcnComponents/ui.

Dev Notes

  • Anything that should be exported for the package should be in src/lib.
  • Any components that you wish to export must be exported in index.ts.

Package Testing

  1. Build the /dist.
npm run build
  1. Create pack.
cd dist
npm pack
  1. Install local package into a new project.
    • Navigate to a new Svelte project.
    • Follow the installation steps.
    • When installing the package, remember to use the local version you just created by copying the path to the .tgz file or using npm link.
