Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Send emails from the browser with Frontmail – EmailJS-compatible API, retries, typed errors, Turnstile.

Readme

@frontmail/browser

Send emails straight from the browser with Frontmail. EmailJS-style API, < 3 kB gzip, automatic retries with idempotency keys, typed errors and Turnstile support.

npm i @frontmail/browser
import frontmail from '@frontmail/browser'; // or: import { init, send, sendForm, getStatus } from '@frontmail/browser'

frontmail.init({ publicKey: 'pk_…' });

const res = await frontmail.send('svc_…', 'tpl_…', { name: 'Jan', email: '[email protected]' });
// res = { messageId, status: 'queued' | 'held', statusToken, status_code: 202, text: 'OK' }

await frontmail.sendForm('svc_…', 'tpl_…', '#contact-form'); // element or selector; files → attachments
await frontmail.getStatus(res.messageId, { token: res.statusToken }); // → { status: 'sent' | 'delivered' | … }

serviceId may be null to use the organization's default service. The last argument of send / sendForm can be a public key string (EmailJS style) or SendOptions ({ publicKey, idempotencyKey, turnstileToken, attachments, blockHeadless, blockList, limitRate, signal }).

<script> / CDN (UMD)

<script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/@frontmail/browser/dist/frontmail.umd.js"></script>
<script>
  frontmail.init({ publicKey: 'pk_…' });
  document.querySelector('form').addEventListener('submit', async (e) => {
    e.preventDefault();
    try {
      const { status } = await frontmail.sendForm('svc_…', 'tpl_…', e.target);
      console.log(status); // 'queued' or 'held'
    } catch (err) {
      console.error(err.code, err.message, err.docsUrl);
    }
  });
</script>

Options (init)

publicKey, apiUrl (default https://api.frontmail.dev), retry ({ retries: 3, baseDelayMs: 300, maxDelayMs: 10000 } or false), timeoutMs (15000), blockHeadless, blockList: { list, watchVariable }, limitRate: { id?, throttle }, storageProvider, fetch. Details: @frontmail/sdk-core.

Errors

Rejections are FrontmailError subclasses exported from this package: NetworkError, ValidationError, AuthError, InsufficientCreditsError, RateLimitError, BlockedError – each with code, status, message, docsUrl and details. Network errors, timeouts, 5xx and 429 are retried automatically with the same Idempotency-Key, so no email is sent twice.

Turnstile

Put a Turnstile widget inside the form (<div class="cf-turnstile" data-sitekey="…"> plus Cloudflare's script). It adds a hidden cf-turnstile-response field which sendForm submits. For send() pass { turnstileToken }.

Typed params

Run npx frontmail types (package @frontmail/node) to generate frontmail-env.d.ts; afterwards send('tpl_contact', params) type-checks params.

Size

pnpm --filter @frontmail/browser size fails the build when the UMD bundle exceeds 3 kB gzip.
