Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

What is Tea Code?

Tea Code is an AI coding agent that runs in your terminal. It can read and edit code, run shell commands, search files, fetch web pages, and choose the next step based on the feedback it receives. It works out of the box with Kimi models and can also be configured to use other compatible providers.

Install

Install with npm or pnpm. Tea Code requires Node.js 22.19.0 or later.

npm install -g @futuretea/tea-code

Or:

pnpm add -g @futuretea/tea-code

On Windows, install Git for Windows before first launch because Tea Code uses the bundled Git Bash as its shell environment. If Git Bash is installed in a custom location, set KIMI_SHELL_PATH to the absolute path of bash.exe.

Verify the installation:

tea-code --version

Quick Start

Open a project and start the interactive UI:

cd your-project
tea-code

On first launch, run /login inside Tea Code and choose either Kimi OAuth or a Kimi Platform API key. After login, try a first task:

  • Lifecycle hooks. Run local commands at key points — gate risky tool calls, audit decisions, fire desktop notifications, wire into your own automation.
