Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.1.0

Published

Run typed decision providers in safe shadow mode and measure disagreements without changing side effects.

Readme

@gbesse/jev-shadow

Compare a primary typed-decision provider with a shadow provider without letting the shadow path control production side effects.

npm install @gbesse/jev-shadow

PRIMARY_URL=https://primary.example/v1/systemone \
SHADOW_URL=https://api.typesafe.ai/v1/systemone \
SHADOW_TOKEN=... \
npx jev-shadow

Send System One-compatible requests to http://127.0.0.1:4319/v1/systemone. The primary response is returned as soon as it completes. The shadow comparison continues independently and appends privacy-safe JSONL events containing hashes, model ids, latency, agreement and decision diffs—never raw state or credentials.

The programmatic runShadow API also accepts arbitrary adapters that normalize an existing classifier and Jev into DecisionEnvelope objects.

const { primary: answer, comparison } = await runShadow(input, currentProvider, jevProvider, {
  traceId: request.id,
  sampleRate: 0.1,
  timeoutMs: 5_000,
  onEvent: eventStore.append,
});

return answer.raw;          // production path
await comparison; // analytics path; never controls the response

Environment variables for the bundled proxy:

| Variable | Meaning | | --- | --- | | PRIMARY_URL / PRIMARY_TOKEN | Current System One-compatible provider. | | SHADOW_URL / SHADOW_TOKEN | Candidate provider. | | SHADOW_PROXY_TOKEN | Optional inbound bearer token. | | SHADOW_SAMPLE_RATE | Stable trace-id sampling from 0 to 1. | | SHADOW_EVENT_PATH | Append-only comparison JSONL path. | | PORT | Loopback port, default 4319. |

Numeric decisions agree within 0.05 by default; categorical decisions must match exactly. Programmatic callers can choose another numeric tolerance.

Shadow mode proves disagreement rates, not correctness. Attach real labels and analyze the events with @gbesse/jev-pulse before routing production actions through a new provider.
