Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

WebAssembly for Proxies (AssemblyScript SDK)

GitHub Actions Workflow Status GitHub commit activity GitHub top language GitHub License NPM Version FOSSA Status

This is a friendly fork of https://github.com/Kong/proxy-wasm-assemblyscript-sdk/, mantained to address an incompatibility between the AssemblyScript SDK and the Rust SDK,

It also provides FastEdge specific functionality for accessing resources.

How to use this SDK

Create a new project:

npm init
npm install --save-dev assemblyscript
npx asinit .

Include "use": "abort=abort_proc_exit" to the asconfig.json file as part of the options passed to asc compiler:

{
  "options": {
    "use": "abort=abort_proc_exit"
  }
}

Add "@gcoredev/proxy-wasm-sdk-as": "^1.0.2" to your dependencies then run npm install.

Hello, World

Copy this into assembly/index.ts:

export * from "@gcoredev/proxy-wasm-sdk-as/assembly/proxy";
import {
  RootContext,
  Context,
  registerRootContext,
  FilterHeadersStatusValues,
  stream_context,
} from "@gcoredev/proxy-wasm-sdk-as/assembly";

class AddHeaderRoot extends RootContext {
  createContext(context_id: u32): Context {
    return new AddHeader(context_id, this);
  }
}

class AddHeader extends Context {
  constructor(context_id: u32, root_context: AddHeaderRoot) {
    super(context_id, root_context);
  }
  onResponseHeaders(a: u32, end_of_stream: bool): FilterHeadersStatusValues {
    const root_context = this.root_context;
    if (root_context.getConfiguration() == "") {
      stream_context.headers.response.add("hello", "world!");
    } else {
      stream_context.headers.response.add(
        "hello",
        root_context.getConfiguration(),
      );
    }
    return FilterHeadersStatusValues.Continue;
  }
}

registerRootContext((context_id: u32) => {
  return new AddHeaderRoot(context_id);
}, "add_header");

Build

To build, simply run:

npm run asbuild

build results will be in the build folder. debug.wasm and release.wasm are the compiled file that we will use (you only need one of them, if unsure use release.wasm).

Run

These binaries can then be uploaded and attached to your CDN applications within the FastEdge UI portal.

For some binaries (the above example for instance) you can test localy using envoy.

Please see Envoy.md

Examples

The examples/ directory contains standalone examples demonstrating common use cases. Each example has its own package.json, asconfig.json, and README.md.

To build any example:

cd examples/<name>
pnpm install
pnpm run asbuild

The compiled binary (build/<name>.wasm) can then be uploaded to the FastEdge portal.

| Example | Description | | ------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------ | | body | Read and modify request and response bodies | | geoBlock | Block requests from specific countries using a BLACKLIST env var | | geoRedirect | Route requests to different origins based on country code | | headers | Add, remove, and replace HTTP request and response headers | | jwt | Validate a JWT Bearer token using a secret variable | | kvStore | Query a FastEdge KV Store (get, scan, zrange, zscan, bfExists) | | logTime | Log UTC timestamps at the request and response phases | | properties | Read and expose FastEdge runtime properties as response headers | | variablesAndSecrets | Access FastEdge environment varibales and secrets at runtime |
