Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

🎨 Styling

The components use external CSS for all styling, making them highly performant and customizable. The CSS is automatically imported when you import the package.

You can override styles by targeting the component classes:

/* Custom button styling */
.glasnost-glass-button {
  --glass-opacity: 0.2;
}

/* Custom toggle colors */
.toggle-button--primary.toggle-button--checked .toggle-track {
  background: linear-gradient(135deg,
    rgba(59, 130, 246, 0.4) 0%,
    rgba(29, 78, 216, 0.3) 100%);
}

🎨 CSS Variables

All components use CSS variables for easy theming:

:root {
  /* Glass Colors */
  --glass-primary: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.08);
  --glass-secondary: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.05);
  --glass-accent: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.12);
  --glass-border: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.18);
  --glass-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.08);
  --glass-glow: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.25);

  /* Glass Gradients */
  --glass-gradient-1: linear-gradient(135deg, rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.09) 0%, rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.04) 100%);
  --glass-gradient-2: linear-gradient(45deg, rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.08) 0%, rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.06) 50%, rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.03) 100%);
  --glass-radial: radial-gradient(circle at 30% 30%, rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.15) 0%, rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.08) 40%, transparent 100%);

  /* Blur values */
  --glass-blur-light: blur(16px) saturate(1.8) brightness(1.05);
  --glass-blur-medium: blur(24px) saturate(2.2) brightness(1.08);
  --glass-blur-heavy: blur(32px) saturate(2.8) brightness(1.12);

🎛️ State Management Examples

Feature Toggles

<script>
  import { GlassToggleButton } from '@glasnost-ui/svelte';

  let featureStates = {
    notifications: true,
    darkMode: false,
    autoSave: true,
    soundEnabled: true,
    analytics: false,
    interactive: false
  };

  const handleFeatureToggle = (feature, checked) => {
    featureStates[feature] = checked;
    // Save to localStorage, API, etc.
    console.log(`${feature}: ${checked}`);
  };
</script>

<div class="feature-toggles">
  <GlassToggleButton
    checked={featureStates.notifications}
    on:change={e => handleFeatureToggle('notifications', e.detail)}
    label="Notifications"
  />
  <GlassToggleButton
    checked={featureStates.darkMode}
    on:change={e => handleFeatureToggle('darkMode', e.detail)}
    label="Dark Mode"
  />
  <GlassToggleButton
    checked={featureStates.autoSave}
    on:change={e => handleFeatureToggle('autoSave', e.detail)}
    label="Auto Save"
  />
</div>

Loading States

<script>
  import { GlassToggleButton } from '@glasnost-ui/svelte';

  let loadingStates = {
    sync: false,
    backup: false,
    update: false
  };

  const handleLoadingToggle = async (state, checked) => {
    loadingStates[state] = checked;

    if (checked) {
      // Simulate async operation
      await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, 2000));
      loadingStates[state] = false;
    }
  };
</script>

<div class="loading-toggles">
  <GlassToggleButton
    checked={loadingStates.sync}
    on:change={e => handleLoadingToggle('sync', e.detail)}
    label="Sync Data"
  />
  <GlassToggleButton
    checked={loadingStates.backup}
    on:change={e => handleLoadingToggle('backup', e.detail)}
    label="Auto Backup"
  />
</div>

📱 Responsive Design

All components are fully responsive and work well on mobile, tablet, and desktop devices. The components automatically adjust their sizing and spacing based on screen size.

♿ Accessibility

All components include proper ARIA attributes and keyboard navigation support:

  • Focus management - All interactive elements are keyboard accessible
  • Screen reader support - Proper ARIA labels and descriptions
  • Reduced motion - Respects prefers-reduced-motion media query
  • High contrast - Works well with high contrast mode

🎯 TypeScript Support

Full TypeScript support with proper type definitions:

import type {
  GlassButtonProps,
  GlassToggleButtonProps,
  ProfileCardProps
} from '@glasnost-ui/svelte';

// Type-safe props
const buttonProps: GlassButtonProps = {
  variant: 'primary',
  size: 'medium',
  disabled: false
};

🔄 Events and Reactivity

All components are fully reactive and emit events for state changes:

<script>
  import { GlassToggleButton } from '@glasnost-ui/svelte';

  let isEnabled = false;

  const handleToggle = (event) => {
    isEnabled = event.detail;
    console.log('Toggle state:', isEnabled);
  };
</script>

<GlassToggleButton
  checked={isEnabled}
  on:change={handleToggle}
  label="Enable Feature"
/>

🎨 Customization

Custom CSS Variables

  --glass-accent: rgba(236, 72, 153, 0.3);

  /* Custom blur effects */
  --glass-blur-medium: blur(30px) saturate(2.5) brightness(1.1);
}

  :global(.glasnost-toggle-button) {
    --track-width: 80px;
    --track-height: 44px;
  }

  • External CSS for better caching and performance
  • Optimized animations with transform and opacity
  • Reduced motion support for accessibility
  • Efficient re-renders with proper Svelte patterns
