Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Goro CLI

Command line client for Goro, a pay-per-call gateway that gives agents and scripts one connection to search, social, maps, commerce and people data.

One key, one prepaid balance, no subscription.

Install

npm install -g @goroo/cli

Set up

goro setup

Paste an API key from app.usegoro.ai. The key is verified before it is stored, and it lands in ~/.goro/config.json with mode 0600. GORO_API_KEY in the environment overrides whatever is stored.

Use it

You do not need to know the catalog. Describe the job:

goro discover -q "recent posts from a tiktok creator"

Check what a tool expects, then run it:

goro inspect -s web.search
goro run -s web.search -i '{"queries":"best espresso machines","maxPagesPerQuery":1}'

Slow tools return a run id instead of blocking. Poll it, or wait inline:

goro run -s instagram.posts -i '{"username":["natgeo"],"resultsLimit":10}' --wait
goro runs get -r <run-id>

Check the balance any time:

goro balance

Commands

| Command | What it does | | --- | --- | | goro setup | Verify and store an API key | | goro keys add\|list\|use | Manage several keys, switch between them | | goro discover -q "<query>" | Rank the catalog against a plain-English query | | goro inspect -s <slug> | Show a tool's input schema and price | | goro run -s <slug> -i '<json>' | Run a tool. -f <file> to read input from a file, --wait to block | | goro runs get -r <id> | Fetch a run's status and results | | goro runs list | Recent runs | | goro balance | Available balance, cash and promotional credit |

Global flags: -j for JSON output, -o <file> to write to a file, --api <url> to point at a different gateway.

Exit codes

Scripts can branch on these.

| Code | Meaning | | --- | --- | | 0 | Success | | 1 | Usage or validation error | | 2 | Authentication failed | | 3 | Insufficient funds or a budget cap | | 4 | Upstream or network failure |

What a price means

Billing follows what a call actually consumes. A tool quotes a rate per result, so the total depends on how many results the call produces, and discover and inspect also return a ceiling for your specific request that you will never be charged above. After a run, the CLI prints what it actually cost.

Results are not stored. Goro records what a call cost and how many rows it returned, never the rows themselves, so keep anything you need.
