Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

React components for rendering Gridframe dashboards.

@gridframe/react

React components for rendering Gridframe dashboards.

import { PanelDashboard, type PanelDashboardConfig } from "@gridframe/react";
import "@gridframe/react/styles.css";

Use <PanelDashboard config={config} /> for a static Dashboard or <PanelDashboard dashboard={{ userId }} /> for the API-managed flow. API-managed mode includes persisted layout and Card-name edits, Dashboard selection, the Card library, and generated Card Deeplinks.

CardVisualization and SourceDataTable are also exported as fetch-free presentation components for Card detail experiences.

Themes

Gridframe ships reusable Light, Dark, and High Contrast Theme presets plus a generator for consumer-owned Themes:

import { GridframeThemeScope, PanelDashboard } from "@gridframe/react";
import {
  createGridframeTheme,
  highContrastTheme,
} from "@gridframe/react/theme";

const custom = createGridframeTheme(
  {
    background: "#f8fafc",
    surface: "#ffffff",
    text: "#111827",
    primary: "#1d4ed8",
    accent: "#0f766e",
    destructive: "#b91c1c",
  },
  { name: "Product analytics" },
);

<PanelDashboard config={config} theme={highContrastTheme} />;

<GridframeThemeScope theme={custom.theme}>
  <DashboardExperience />
</GridframeThemeScope>;

The server-safe @gridframe/react/theme subpath exports Theme types, presets, generation and validation functions, and versioned JSON and CSS-variable serializers. createGridframeTheme always returns structured validation issues; check result.valid before making a generated Theme selectable.

AI-generated Dashboard proposals

API-managed mode includes a Create with AI dialog when the host mounts the Dashboard AI routes. Users can:

  • edit the current Dashboard or propose a new named Dashboard;
  • start from the bundled prompt examples;
  • review proposed actions, assumptions, missing information, validation messages, and the server-resolved Card layout;
  • apply a valid proposal explicitly.

Generation never changes the Dashboard. The dialog calls the proposal endpoint first and only calls Apply after the user selects Apply proposal. Successful creation switches PanelDashboard to the new Dashboard through the existing onDashboardChange flow.

The provider, safe field catalogue, permissions, and persistence live in @gridframe/server; no provider credential is passed to the React package. See AI-generated Dashboards for the complete server setup and security model.
