Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Formly Designer is a visual editor for creating Formly forms without manually writing their configuration.

Instead of writing form configurations manually in code, users can:

  • Add and arrange form fields visually.
  • Configure field properties and component behavior.
  • Import form definitions from JSON schema's or OpenApi.
  • Generate a frontend based on an OpenApi definition.
  • Preview and test the resulting forms.

The designer generates a Formly field configuration that can be used by an Angular application to render forms or frontend pages.

Getting started

Install

Run npm i @grumptech/ngx-formly-designer.

Configure

First, register the components for both the application and the Formly Designer:

provideFormlyCore(withFormlyUiMaterial(), withFormlyEditorTypes());

Next, configure the Formly application using provideFormlyAppConfig, as described in the ngx-formly-ui-base README.

Note: The form loader will be provided by Formly designer.

provideFormlyAppConfig({
  baseUrl: apiPath,
  messageService: MaterialMessageService,
});

Register the Formly Designer using provideFormlyDesigner:

provideFormlyDesigner({
  fileServiceUrl: '/file-service',
  importers: [
    JsonImporter,
    ExtendedJsonSchemaImporter,
    ExtendedOpenApiImporter,
    ExtendedOpenApiAppImporter,
  ],
  editor: {
    formRenderConfig: {
      editFormFieldConverter: (field: FormlyFieldConfig) => {
        field.hide && delete field.hide;
        field.expressions && delete field.expressions;
        field.props?.url && delete field.props.url;
        field.props?.autoRun && delete field.props.autoRun;
      },
      testFormFieldConverter: (field: FormlyFieldConfig) => {
        field.type === 'page' &&
          (field.props ??= {}) &&
          (field.props.navigationDisabled = true);
      },
    }
  },
}),

The fileServiceUrl specifies the endpoint used by the Designer's file service. The importers array registers the supported form importers. The formRenderConfig allows the form configuration to be adjusted when rendering forms in edit or test mode. In this example:

  • with editFormFieldConverter runtime-only properties such as hide, expressions, props.url, and props.autoRun are removed.
  • with testFormFieldConverter page navigation is disabled while testing a form.

Finally, add the Formly Designer to the application's routes:

    {
      path: 'designer',
      loadComponent: () =>
        import('@grumptech/ngx-formly-designer').then(
          (m) => m.FormlyDesigner,
        ),
    }

The designer will then be available at /designer.

Develop

  • Run npm install to install the necessary npm packages.
  • Run npm run build to build the library.
