Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Readme

@gtivr4/a1-design-system-react

React components for the A1 token-driven design system.

Install

npm install @gtivr4/a1-design-system-react

React 18+ is a peer dependency. The package ships untranspiled ESM + JSX source, so your bundler must transform .jsx inside node_modules — Vite 4+ handles this out of the box.

Setup

1. Import the global CSS once, in this order

import "@gtivr4/a1-design-system-react/tokens.css"; // base :root design tokens — must be first
import "@gtivr4/a1-design-system-react/themes.css"; // optional theme selector overrides
import "@gtivr4/a1-design-system-react/color-scheme.css"; // light/dark modes, inverse scopes, box-model reset

tokens.css defines every CSS custom property the components read. Without it nothing is styled correctly.

2. Load the fonts

Components use the Material Symbols Outlined icon font and the Inter text face:

<link rel="preconnect" href="https://fonts.googleapis.com">
<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Inter:ital,opsz,wght@0,14..32,100..900;1,14..32,100..900&display=swap" rel="stylesheet">
<link href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Material+Symbols+Outlined:opsz,wght,FILL,[email protected],100..700,0..1,-50..200&display=block" rel="stylesheet">

Branded themes (fresh, crochet, aperture, marshmallow) need their own text faces — see guidelines/setup.md for the full list.

3. Configure PostCSS custom media

Component CSS uses @custom-media breakpoints. Expand them at build time with postcss-custom-media fed from this package's breakpoints.css — the exact config is in guidelines/setup.md. Without it, responsive component behavior (Grid, Stack, field layouts, and more) is dropped.

Usage

import { Button, Card, Heading, Paragraph } from "@gtivr4/a1-design-system-react";

export function Example() {
  return (
    <Card>
      <Heading as="h2">A1 Design</Heading>
      <Paragraph>A token-driven, component-first design system.</Paragraph>
      <Button>Get started</Button>
    </Card>
  );
}

Component styles are imported by each component module.

Documentation

The guidelines/ directory ships inside this package:

  • guidelines/Guidelines.md — hub: quick-start checklist, key rules
  • guidelines/setup.md — full setup: CSS, fonts, PostCSS, providers
  • guidelines/components.md — every exported component with key props
  • guidelines/icon-discovery.md — icon naming, sizes, custom icons
  • guidelines/tokens.md — token tiers, theming, dark mode
  • guidelines/styles.md — layout primitives, spacing, breakpoints
