Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

hydron plugin add . --local # registers in the gitignored .hydron/plugins.local.json

Skills

scpi-oscilloscope

Drives any SCPI oscilloscope over the LAN — discover, connect, configure channels / acquisition / trigger, run-stop-single, measure, capture waveforms and screenshots — through per-vendor profiles (tek / keysight / rigol / generic) auto-detected from *IDN?.

└── diagnostics/ # bring-up probes, fake scope server, selftest

One-time host setup (Python 3, Windows / macOS / Linux):

python3 -m pip install -r skills/scpi-oscilloscope/requirements.txt

Connection settings are never hardcoded — flags → SCOPE_* env → persisted config → prompt, written only after the scope answers *IDN?.

S=skills/scpi-oscilloscope
python3 $S/tools/scope_cli.py discover # list SCPI instruments
python3 $S/tools/scope_cli.py setup --ip 192.168.1.10 # test + persist (+ profile)
python3 $S/tools/scope_cli.py status # read-only snapshot
python3 $S/tools/scope_cli.py batch --ops '[{"tool":"measure","args":{"type":"PK2PK","source":"CH1"}}]'

Every invocation prints one JSON object (status, error_code, tool, result, esr); exit 0 = ok, 1 = error. Prompts/progress go to stderr; tm_devices may log to stdout ahead of the JSON — parse from the first {.

For any task with more than ~2 scope operations, use batch — one socket connection for the whole sequence. Full docs: skills/scpi-oscilloscope/SKILL.md.

No scope on hand? python3 skills/scpi-oscilloscope/diagnostics/selftest.py spins up a loopback fake scope and exercises the whole CLI/contract surface (exit 0 = good) — the same check CI should run.

Publishing

Every push to main publishes automatically (.github/workflows/publish.yml) once an NPM_TOKEN Actions secret is set — see the workflow file for details. Versioning is commit-driven (Conventional Commits): feat: → minor, feat!:/ BREAKING CHANGE → major, anything else → patch, applied on top of whatever is already published on npm.
