Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@hiddentao/logger

v1.3.1

Published

A flexible and customizable logging library for JavaScript/TypeScript applications

Readme

@hiddentao/logger

CI

A lightweight, flexible, and powerful logging library for JavaScript/TypeScript applications.

Features

  • Simple API - straightforward methods for different log levels (debug, info, warn, error)
  • Customizable transports - easily route logs to different destinations (console, file, etc.)
  • Hierarchical logging - create child loggers with categories for better organization
  • Colorized output - easily distinguish between different log levels with color-coded console output
  • TypeScript support - fully typed API with generated type definitions
  • Minimal dependencies - lightweight with only essential dependencies
  • Configurable log levels - control verbosity with minimum log level filtering

Installation

# Using npm
npm install @hiddentao/logger

# Using yarn
yarn add @hiddentao/logger

# Using bun
bun add @hiddentao/logger

Usage

Basic usage

import { Logger } from '@hiddentao/logger';
import { ConsoleTransport } from '@hiddentao/logger/transports/console';

// Create a logger with console transport
const logger = new Logger();
logger.addTransport(new ConsoleTransport({ showTimestamps: true }));

// Log at different levels
logger.debug('Debug message');
logger.info('Info message');
logger.warn('Warning message');
logger.error('Error message');

Controlling log levels

import { Logger, LogLevel } from '@hiddentao/logger';
import { ConsoleTransport } from '@hiddentao/logger/transports/console';

// Create a logger that only shows warnings and errors
const logger = new Logger({
  minLevel: LogLevel.WARN,
  transports: [new ConsoleTransport()]
});

logger.debug('This will not be shown');
logger.info('This will not be shown either');
logger.warn('This warning will be displayed');
logger.error('This error will be displayed');

Using categories

import { Logger } from '@hiddentao/logger';
import { ConsoleTransport } from '@hiddentao/logger/transports/console';

// Create a base logger
const logger = new Logger({
  transports: [new ConsoleTransport()]
});

// Create child loggers with categories
const authLogger = logger.child('auth');
const apiLogger = logger.child('api');

// Logs will be prefixed with their categories
authLogger.info('User logged in'); // [info] <auth> User logged in
apiLogger.error('API request failed'); // [error] <api> API request failed

// Nested categories
const userApiLogger = apiLogger.child('users');
userApiLogger.info('User created'); // [info] <api/users> User created

Handling objects and multiple arguments

import { Logger } from '@hiddentao/logger';
import { ConsoleTransport } from '@hiddentao/logger/transports/console';

const logger = new Logger({
  transports: [new ConsoleTransport()]
});

// Log objects
logger.info({ user: 'john', id: 123 });

// Mix strings and objects
logger.info('User', { id: 123 }, 'logged in successfully');
