Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

The homeostat team knowledge base as an MCP server.

Readme

@homeostat/mcp

The Homeostat knowledge base as an MCP server, so any agent can read and add to it.

| Tool | What it does | | --- | --- | | context | The team rules that apply to the given files, best first, within a token budget | | search | Keyword search over accepted rules (runs locally, no model call), by area or path | | explain | Why a rule exists: source comment, score breakdown, owner, conflicts, last confirmed | | learn | Saves a lesson as a candidate rule on the caller's candidates/<member> branch | | flag | Reports a rule as wrong: it loses score and goes back to review | | docs | Lists the team's reference documents and their sections, for an area or a file | | read | Reads a document, or one section of it, with where each section came from | | report | Knowledge base health over recent days |

learn and flag are off unless the KB sets security.mcpWrites: true, and then each session may make at most security.mcpWriteLimit (5) writes. An agent can be steered by text it reads, so by default it suggests and a person saves (/homeostat:learn, homeostat learn). Rules in security.teamOnlyAreas are only returned to members of that area.

Agents guess tool and argument names. Common guesses (get_rules, remember, list, q, entry_id, ...) are accepted and logged as desire paths in the KB's local event log (.homeostat/events.db); any other unknown tool is logged and answered with the real tool list and the closest match. homeostat status and the dashboard show them, so the common guesses can become real tools.

Run it

The server is homeostat mcp (stdio). It finds the KB from HOMEOSTAT_DIR, or uses the current directory if it has a homeostat.yaml.

Claude Code: installing the Homeostat plugin starts it; set the plugin's kb_dir. Approve the read-only tools once, e.g. in /permissions allow mcp__plugin_homeostat_homeostat__context, __search, __explain, __report.

Claude Desktop (claude_desktop_config.json):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "homeostat": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["--yes", "[email protected]", "mcp"],
      "env": { "HOMEOSTAT_DIR": "/path/to/your/kb-checkout" }
    }
  }
}

Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json in the code repo, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json): the same mcpServers block.

Codex / other clients: any stdio MCP client; the command is homeostat mcp.
