Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MySQL storage backend for idempotency

Readme

@idempot/mysql-store

MySQL storage backend for idempotency.

Installation

npm install @idempot/mysql-store mysql2

Usage (Node.js)

import { MysqlIdempotencyStore } from "@idempot/mysql-store";

const store = new MysqlIdempotencyStore({
  host: "localhost",
  port: 3306,
  database: "myapp",
  user: "root",
  password: "password"
});

// Close on shutdown
process.on("SIGINT", async () => {
  await store.close();
  process.exit(0);
});

Usage (Deno)

For Deno, import from the deno subpath:

import { MysqlIdempotencyStore } from "@idempot/mysql-store/deno-mysql.js";

const store = new MysqlIdempotencyStore({
  hostname: "localhost",
  port: 3306,
  db: "myapp",
  username: "root",
  password: "password"
});

await store.connect();

Note: Option names differ between runtimes because they match the underlying libraries:

  • Node.js uses mysql2 (host, user, database)
  • Deno uses deno-mysql (hostname, username, db)

Or import directly from GitHub:

import { MysqlIdempotencyStore } from "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/idempot-dev/idempot-js/main/packages/stores/mysql/deno-mysql.js";

Or with a version tag:

import { MysqlIdempotencyStore } from "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/idempot-dev/idempot-js/v0.1.0/packages/stores/mysql/deno-mysql.js";

Schema

The store creates a table named idempotency_records with:

  • key (VARCHAR(255), PRIMARY KEY)
  • fingerprint (VARCHAR(64), indexed)
  • status (ENUM: 'processing', 'complete')
  • response_status (INT)
  • response_headers (JSON)
  • response_body (TEXT)
  • expires_at (BIGINT, indexed)

API

Node.js: new MysqlIdempotencyStore(options)

Creates a new MySQL store for Node.js. Options are passed directly to mysql2.createPool().

Common Options:

  • connectionString: MySQL connection string (e.g., mysql://user:pass@host:port/db)
  • host: MySQL host (default: localhost)
  • port: MySQL port (default: 3306)
  • user: MySQL user (default: root)
  • password: MySQL password
  • database: MySQL database name

Pool Options:

  • connectionLimit: Maximum connections in pool (default: 10)
  • queueLimit: Maximum queued connections
  • waitForConnections: Wait for available connection (default: true)

See mysql2 documentation for all available options.

Deno: new MysqlIdempotencyStore(options)

Creates a new MySQL store for Deno.

Options:

  • hostname: MySQL hostname (default: "localhost")
  • port: MySQL port (default: 3306)
  • username: MySQL username (default: "root")
  • password: MySQL password (default: "")
  • db: Database name (default: "mysql")
  • poolSize: Connection pool size (default: 3)

store.lookup(key, fingerprint)

Look up an idempotency record by key and fingerprint. Returns {byKey, byFingerprint}.

store.startProcessing(key, fingerprint, ttlMs)

Mark a request as being processed. Creates a new record with status 'processing'.

store.complete(key, response)

Mark a request as complete with its response data. Updates the record with status 'complete'.

store.close()

Close the connection pool (Node.js) or database connection (Deno).

TypeScript Support

This library uses JavaScript with JSDoc comments for type information. Enable allowJs in your TypeScript configuration to use these types directly—no separate .d.ts files needed.

To use this library in a TypeScript project:

  1. Add these settings to your tsconfig.json:

    {
      "allowJs": true,
      "checkJs": true
    }
  2. Import the library as you normally would:

    import { MysqlIdempotencyStore } from "@idempot/mysql-store";
  3. JSDoc comments provide full type safety: parameter types, return types, and detailed documentation in your IDE.

This approach simplifies maintenance while giving TypeScript users an excellent developer experience.
