Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Package Manager Performance

| Package Manager | Startup Time | Market Share | |----------------|--------------|--------------| | Bun (bunx) | ~0.05s | ~5% | | Deno | ~0.1s | ~5% | | pnpm (pnpx) | ~0.5s | ~10% | | npm (npx) | ~2-5s | ~80% |

Recommendation: For fastest performance, use bunx if you have Bun installed.

Configuration

No configuration required! The CLI automatically:

  • Detects your Claude Code installation directory
  • Finds your global plugins directory (~/.claude/plugins)
  • Detects project-local plugins (.claude-plugin/ directory)
  • Creates necessary directories if they don't exist

Supported Paths

Linux & macOS:

  • Config: ~/.claude
  • Plugins: ~/.claude/plugins
  • Marketplaces: ~/.claude/marketplaces

Windows:

  • Config: %APPDATA%\Claude
  • Plugins: %APPDATA%\Claude\plugins
  • Marketplaces: %APPDATA%\Claude\marketplaces

Requirements

  • Node.js 18.0.0 or higher
  • Claude Code installed and run at least once

Troubleshooting

"Claude Code config directory not found"

Ensure Claude Code is installed and has been run at least once. The CLI looks for:

  • Linux/macOS: ~/.claude
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude

Run ccpi doctor to diagnose installation issues.

Permission Errors

If you get permission errors during installation:

  1. Try installing locally (project-level) instead of globally
  2. Check that you have write permissions to the Claude directories
  3. Run ccpi doctor to check your setup

Plugin Not Found

If a plugin can't be found:

  1. Check the plugin name spelling
  2. Run ccpi list --all to see available plugins
  3. Visit claudecodeplugins.io to browse the full marketplace
  4. Ensure your marketplace catalog is up to date

Development

Setup

npm install
npm run build

Testing

npm test

Build

npm run build

This compiles TypeScript to JavaScript in the dist/ directory.

Architecture

The CLI is built with:

  • Commander.js - CLI framework
  • Chalk - Terminal styling
  • Ora - Loading spinners
  • fs-extra - File system operations
  • axios - HTTP requests
