Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Checks that a CLI honours the invokable agent contract.

$ npx invokable-test node bin/mytool.mjs

  ✓ `--version --json` returns a valid ok envelope
  ✓ `--help --json` returns a command manifest
✓ An unknown command exits 2 with an error envelope
✓ A bare invocation does not exit 0
✓ `doctor --json` reports auth and config state
✓ Every exit code is reserved or in 30-99
✓ `--json` puts exactly one JSON document on stdout
✓ No credential-shaped strings on stdout
  ✓ Errors carry a `remediation`

  9 passed

Exit 0 when everything passes, 1 otherwise. It works on any CLI, not just one built with @invokable/core: the contract is the product, and the library is one way of satisfying it.

What it will not do

It never runs a command from your manifest. Only --help, --version, doctor and deliberately invalid invocations are executed. A runner that executed every listed command could deploy something or spend the user's money, and tools where that matters are exactly the ones this suite exists for.

To include a command you know is safe:

invokable-test node bin/mytool.mjs --safe-command "projects list"

It never reproduces a credential. The secret-leak check reports the shape and the prefix — a token-shaped string: prefix "mtl_", 36 characters — never the material, because a report gets pasted into issues and CI logs.

Options

| Option | Effect | |---|---| | --json | Emit the report as JSON on stdout instead of text on stderr. | | --safe-command <cmd> | Also run this command. Repeatable. | | --timeout <ms> | Per-invocation timeout. Default 30000. |

In CI

- run: npx invokable-test node bin/mytool.mjs

A failing check prints why an agent depends on it and a command to reproduce it.
