Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Accessible React components for all ISO 7010 safety signs — fully typed, zero runtime dependencies beyond React

Readme

@iso-safety-signs/react

React components (inline SVG) for all ISO 7010 workplace safety signs. Tree-shakeable, fully accessible, zero runtime dependencies beyond React.

npm License: MIT

Installation

npm install @iso-safety-signs/react
# or
yarn add @iso-safety-signs/react

Usage

Named components (generated)

Each ISO 7010 sign is a named component in PascalCase derived from its slug ID:

import {
  E001EmergencyExit,
  W001FlammableMaterial,
  P001NoSmoking,
  M001GeneralMandatoryAction,
  F001FireExtinguisher,
} from '@iso-safety-signs/react';

export default function SafetyPanel() {
  return (
    <>
      <E001EmergencyExit width={64} />
      <W001FlammableMaterial width={64} />
      <P001NoSmoking width={64} title="No smoking in this area" />
    </>
  );
}

Dynamic rendering by ID

Use SignById when the sign ID comes from an API response or user input:

import { SignById } from '@iso-safety-signs/react';

<SignById id="e001-emergency-exit" width={120} />
<SignById id={signId} width={64} height={64} />

Returns null for unrecognised IDs — no error thrown.

Props

Every component and SignById accept the same props:

| Prop | Type | Default | Description | | ------------- | --------------------- | -------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- | | width | number \| string | SVG intrinsic width | Width of the <svg> element | | height | number \| string | SVG intrinsic height | Height of the <svg> element | | title | string | Sign name | Accessible title (<title> inside SVG) | | description | string | Sign description | Accessible description (<desc> inside SVG) | | className | string | — | CSS class forwarded to the root <span> wrapper | | style | React.CSSProperties | — | Inline styles forwarded to the root <span> wrapper |

SignById also requires:

| Prop | Type | Description | | ---- | -------- | ------------------------------------------ | | id | string | Sign slug ID, e.g. "e001-emergency-exit" |

Accessibility

Every component renders role="img" with aria-labelledby pointing to a <title> and <desc> injected inside the SVG. Screen readers announce the sign name and description automatically.

Override defaults when needed:

<E001EmergencyExit
  width={120}
  title="Emergency exit — ground floor"
  description="Green running figure with directional arrow"
/>
