Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

React captcha components — canvas text, math (BODMAS), and slider puzzles with shared verify / attempt APIs

Readme

@itzsa/captcha

Company-standard React captcha with two trust models on one API:

| Trust model | Generate | Verify | Use when | |-------------|----------|--------|----------| | Client (default) | In the browser | Local match (verifyCaptcha / verifyMathAnswer) | Soft UX friction | | Server | Your API stores the answer | POST /verify + optional Turnstile | Login / checkout / signup |

Client mode is not a security boundary alone. Sensitive actions must use the server trust model.

Install

pnpm add @itzsa/captcha

Client — generate + verify in the browser

import { MathCaptcha } from "@itzsa/captcha";

// No serverChallenge → local generateMathChallenge + verifyMathAnswer
<MathCaptcha
  difficulty="medium"
  layout="inline"
  onVerified={setOk}
/>

Text / slider work the same way (Captcha, SliderCaptcha).

Server — trusted challenge (company standard)

<MathCaptcha
  layout="inline"
  serverChallenge={{ prompt, token }} // from POST /api/captcha/challenge
  onRequestChallenge={loadChallenge}
  verify={async ({ value, challengeId }) => {
    const res = await fetch("/api/captcha/verify", {
      method: "POST",
      body: JSON.stringify({ token: challengeId, answer: value /* … */ }),
    });
    return res.ok;
  }}
  onVerified={setOk}
/>

Headless helpers (shared by both models): generateMathChallenge, verifyMathAnswer, generateCaptcha, verifyCaptcha.

Key props (Captcha)

| Prop | Default | Description | |------|---------|-------------| | length / chars | 6 | Character count (3–16) | | charsetMode | "both" | "both" | "letters" | "numbers" | | excludeAmbiguous | true | Drop 0/O/1/l/I | | maxAttempts | 5 | Lock after N failures | | verify | — | Optional host check after local match (client) or sole check (server) | | error / loading | — | Controlled host error / loading | | onError / onLock | — | Structured failures / lock |

MathCaptcha

| Prop | Default | Description | |------|---------|-------------| | difficulty | "easy" | "easy" | "medium" | "hard" | "bodmas" | | layout | "stack" | "stack" or "inline" | | autoRefreshOnInvalid | true | New problem after a wrong answer | | serverChallenge | — | { prompt, token } — enables server trust model | | onRequestChallenge | — | Host fetches next challenge on refresh |

SliderCaptcha

| Prop | Default | Description | |------|---------|-------------| | targetMin / targetMax | 90 / 100 | Success zone (%) | | maxAttempts | 5 | Lock after N failed releases | | verify | — | Optional async check after a successful slide |

Imperative API (ref)

refresh(), reset(), unlock(), getValue(), getChallengeId(), validate(), getStatus(), getAttempts(). MathCaptcha also exposes getChallenge() (null in server mode).
