Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

A Claude Code skill for Amazon-style narrative writing — PR/FAQs, six-pagers, decision memos, and other executive-grade prose.

Readme

amazon-style-writing

A Claude Code skill that teaches Claude to write in the Amazon narrative style: PR/FAQs, six-pagers, one-pagers, decision memos, and status updates. Dense, declarative, customer-anchored prose with no weasel words.

What it does

When the skill is active, Claude applies seven rules to every draft:

  1. Sentences stay short (≥70% under 20 words).
  2. Subject-verb-object, active voice, present tense.
  3. Adjectives and adverbs without numbers get cut.
  4. Weasel words become numbers, dates, or named owners.
  5. Every paragraph passes the "So What?" test.
  6. The recommendation is front-loaded in paragraph one.
  7. Decisions are classified as one-way or two-way doors.

The skill includes templates for PR/FAQs and six-pagers, a banned-word list, anti-patterns to refuse, and a worked example.

Install

Via npm

npm install @jashjeet/amazon-style-writing

After install, SKILL.md is available at node_modules/@jashjeet/amazon-style-writing/SKILL.md.

For Claude Code

Copy SKILL.md into your Claude Code skills directory:

mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/amazon-style-writing
cp node_modules/@jashjeet/amazon-style-writing/SKILL.md ~/.claude/skills/amazon-style-writing/SKILL.md

Claude Code auto-discovers skills in ~/.claude/skills/ at session start.

Manually (without npm)

git clone https://github.com/Jashjeet/amazon-style-writing.git ~/.claude/skills/amazon-style-writing

When the skill fires

The skill activates on phrases like:

  • "Write a PR/FAQ for..."
  • "Draft a six-pager on..."
  • "Convert this draft to Amazon style"
  • "Tighten this up", "de-fluff this"
  • "Write a decision memo"
  • "Working Backwards on [feature]"

It also fires when the user asks for an executive-grade written deliverable without naming a specific format.

When the skill should NOT fire

  • Customer-facing marketing copy (the style reads as cold).
  • Casual Slack messages and chat replies.
  • Code comments and inline docs.
  • Creative writing or anything where voice matters more than density.
