Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Hydrafetch

A modern, cross-platform system information fetching tool inspired by neofetch and fastfetch. Built with Node.js/TypeScript for maximum compatibility across macOS, Linux, and Windows.

Installation

Quick Install (Recommended)

Run once with npx, then use the built-in installer:

npx @joddabod5scripts/hydrafetch@latest --install

This will globally install the latest version to your system.

Manual Installation

npm install -g @joddabod5scripts/hydrafetch@latest

Run Without Installing

npx @joddabod5scripts/hydrafetch@latest

Usage

First Run

On first execution, you'll be guided through an interactive configuration wizard:

  1. Choose Layout - Classic (side-by-side) or Minimal (top-down)
  2. Select Color Theme - Default Cyan, Catppuccin, Dracula, or Monochrome
  3. Toggle Stats - Show/hide specific system information

Commands

# Run hydrafetch
hydrafetch

# Install globally (if running via npx)
npx @joddabod5scripts/hydrafetch@latest --install

# Reconfigure settings
hydrafetch --config

# Reset to defaults
hydrafetch --reset

System Information Displayed

  • OS: Distribution, release, architecture
  • Host: Device manufacturer and model
  • Kernel: Kernel version
  • Uptime: System uptime (formatted)
  • Shell: Current shell (bash, zsh, fish, etc.)
  • Resolution: Display resolution
  • DE: Desktop Environment
  • WM: Window Manager
  • Terminal: Terminal emulator
  • CPU: Processor model, cores, speed
  • GPU: Graphics card model
  • Memory: RAM usage with visual bar

Configuration

Configuration is stored in:

  • Linux/macOS: ~/.config/hydrafetch/config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\hydrafetch\config.json

Development

# Clone repository
git clone <repository-url>
cd hydrafetch

# Install dependencies
npm install

# Run in development mode
npm run dev

# Build
npm run build

# Run built version
npm start
