Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MCP server exposing @johnhenry/math Symbolic evaluation + guarded tensor/linalg computation as agent-callable tools (issue #45) — no arbitrary code execution, structured inputs only

@johnhenry/math-plus-mcp

npm version license

An MCP server exposing the math family's math engines as agent-callable tools: exact symbolic computation (@johnhenry/math's Symbolic CAS) plus guarded numeric tensor/linalg/stats conveniences. Fast-starting, pure JS, no kernel, no license check — run it anywhere Node runs.

# stdio transport — works with any MCP host
npx math-plus-mcp

# e.g. with Claude Code:
claude mcp add math-plus -- npx math-plus-mcp

Tools (v1)

| Tool | What it does | |---|---| | symbolic_parse | Parse/normalize an expression; returns text, LaTeX, free variables | | symbolic_simplify | Exact symbolic simplification | | symbolic_differentiate | d/d(variable), exact | | symbolic_integrate | Indefinite (symbolic) or definite (numeric, with lower/upper) | | symbolic_solve | Solve lhs = rhs or zero-equals form for a variable (polynomials ≤ degree 6) | | symbolic_evaluate | Numeric evaluation with variable bindings | | linalg_solve | Solve A·x = b (LU with partial pivoting) | | tensor_pipeline | Chain of ops from a closed op table over a matrix — not code execution | | stats_summary | count/mean/std/min/max/median for a list of numbers |

Security posture (v1 scope, by design)

  • No arbitrary code execution anywhere. Expression strings go through Symbolic.parse — a closed parser over a fixed grammar, not eval. Numeric tools dispatch over a fixed op table; unknown ops are rejected with the list of what's allowed.
  • Stateless per call. No sessions, no notebook state, nothing persists between calls.
  • Size-capped inputs (1e6 elements) so a mis-typed request errors fast instead of exhausting host memory.
  • Tool failures return MCP isError results with the underlying message — never protocol-level exceptions.

What v1 does NOT do

  • No matrix arguments between pipeline steps (e.g. matmul with a second operand) — the pipeline is unary-chain only.
  • No ODE solving, Taylor series, or step-by-step derivations, though @johnhenry/math supports them — kept out of v1 to hold the tool list small and legible for agents; file an issue if you want one promoted.
  • No HTTP/SSE transport — stdio only.
