Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

DSH web UI plugin that adds a Codex-style multi-turn query navigator without changing conversation or session data.

DSH Query Navigator

An independent DSH web UI plugin that adds a Codex-style left query rail to multi-turn conversations.

Behavior

  • One marker per loaded ordinary user Query (kind: user). Steering and injected context are excluded.
  • The marker nearest the reading line is highlighted as the transcript scrolls.
  • Click a marker to scroll to its Query; hover or focus it to preview the Query text.
  • The rail is hidden for fewer than two Queries or when the transcript has no overflow.
  • Long conversations keep every loaded Query available in a compact scrollable rail.

Composition and data boundaries

The plugin contributes through DSH's declared conversation.input.dock slot and portals only its visual overlay. It reads the session's already-materialized chat snapshot plus the stable data-chat-* DOM anchors. It does not replace ui-conversation, mutate message rows, write session events, or touch ~/.dsh/sessions.

It works with any conversation plugin that declares the conversation.input.dock slot, including the stock ui-conversation and @khalilhsu/dsh-ui-conversation-folded.

Build

The local node_modules symlink may point at a compatible DSH client package's node_modules directory. The scripts use the sibling DSH checkout's root binaries while resolving runtime packages from that client package.

pnpm run test
pnpm run typecheck
pnpm run bundle

The built browser entry is lib/client.js; DSH serves that artifact through its client module loader.

Known limitations

  • The Host projects an 80-character preview of the first human Query in every Turn; unloaded turns show that lightweight preview and load only the required older pages when clicked.
  • Query navigation relies on DSH's documented conversation scrollport and stable chat anchor attributes.
