Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Deterministic PNG share-card rendering and bounded coalescing cache.

Deterministic 1200 × 630 PNG share cards for site, problem and competition previews.

MIT · Node / Bun · ESM + TypeScript · npm version

Problem card Competition card

What it does

  • Renders the KICE share-card templates with Sharp, a bundled Korean font and packaged artwork.
  • Draws ended-event Mondrian covers using @kicearena/mondrian.
  • Coalesces identical concurrent renders and bounds the cache to 128 PNGs and four active requests.
  • Resolves resources from the installed package, with no application checkout, browser, network assets or database.

Install

Install directly from the public npm registry:

npm install --save-exact @kicearena/[email protected]
# or
bun add --exact @kicearena/[email protected]
import {
  renderShareImage,
  createShareImageCache,
  defaultShareImageFile,
} from "@kicearena/og-image";
const imageFor = createShareImageCache(renderShareImage);
const png = await imageFor({
  kind: "problem",
  examTitle: "공개 모의고사",
  number: 30,
  topicTags: [{ label: "미분", icon: "icons/topics/compact/08-derivatives" }],
});

Pass already-public display data. Problem cards accept label + asset ID tags. Competition cards accept variant (ticket/mondrian), seed, title, status/date/time/summary labels and at most 48 stable unique entry keys. Type declarations describe the complete input. Neither membership, public visibility, event state nor route authorization is decided here.

warmShareImageRenderer() prepares the shared resources; render failures are retryable. It configures Fontconfig to the package font directory before lazily loading Sharp. defaultShareImageFile is the packaged pre-rendered site card for an inexpensive static response. The HTTP route's deadline, errors, ETags and cache headers belong to the host. Dynamic KICE cards must revalidate public visibility on each request and must not receive immutable CDN caching.

Develop

bun install --frozen-lockfile
bun run check
bun run test
bun run build
bun run preview

preview writes five synthetic example cards. Tests cover deterministic geometry, markup escaping, missing artwork, concurrent capacity, retries, cache invalidation and LRU eviction. Sharp requires its platform-native dependencies; test the target deployment image separately.
