Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@knowdrive/mcp

v0.1.2

Published

1-click MCP server for KnowDrive — run `npx -y @knowdrive/mcp` to give any MCP client (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor) memory backed by your KnowDrive KnowDB.

Readme

@knowdrive/mcp

One command gives any MCP client — Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor — memory backed by your KnowDrive KnowDB:

npx -y @knowdrive/mcp

Installing @knowdrive/mcp into Claude Desktop with one command

No manual JSON editing required. @knowdrive/mcp is a thin stdio↔HTTP bridge: your MCP client talks stdio to this process, this process talks Streamable HTTP to your KnowDB, carrying your API key. All the real tools — search, ingest, file management — live on the KnowDrive side, so this package stays tiny and new tools show up automatically without an update.

1-click install

npx -y @knowdrive/mcp --install claude-desktop
npx -y @knowdrive/mcp --install cursor
npx -y @knowdrive/mcp --install claude-code

This merges a knowdrive entry into the client's MCP config (backing up whatever was there first) and prompts for an API key the first time, saving it to ~/.knowdrive/config.json. Restart the client afterward.

Manual setup

Get a free account at knowdrive.ai, then get a key at knowdrive.ai/developer-keys. Then either:

  • run npx -y @knowdrive/mcp once in a terminal and paste it when prompted, or
  • set KNOWDRIVE_API_KEY directly in your client's server config:
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "knowdrive": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@knowdrive/mcp"],
      "env": { "KNOWDRIVE_API_KEY": "kd_..." }
    }
  }
}

Environment variables

| Variable | Purpose | | ---------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- | | KNOWDRIVE_API_KEY | API key. Takes priority over the saved config file. | | KNOWDRIVE_BASE_URL | Override the KnowDrive host (default https://dev.knowdrive.ai). | | KNOWDRIVE_MCP_PATH | Override the remote MCP path (default /api/v1/mcp). |

Development

npm install
npm run build
node dist/cli.js --help
node scripts/smoke-test.mjs # connects the built server to the real KnowDB and lists its tools
vhs demo/install.tape         # re-render demo/install.gif (brew install vhs)
