Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

@kopai/app

Local OpenTelemetry backend with an http/json Otel collector, Otel data storage and API to query the data.

Quick Start

npx @kopai/app start

Starts two servers:

  • API server on port 8000 (query traces, logs, metrics)
  • OTEL collector on port 4318 (receives OTLP/HTTP data)

Kopai App server usage

npx @kopai/app <command>

Commands

Endpoints

Sending Telemetry

Your application needs an OpenTelemetry SDK for your language.

Configure it to export OTLP/HTTP data to http://localhost:4318:

export OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_ENDPOINT=http://localhost:4318

Example Workflow

1. Start Kopai

npx @kopai/app start

2. Run your instrumented app

3. Query your telemetry data

Search traces:

Query telemetry data using @kopai/cli (recommended)

@kopai/cli provides a simpler interface for querying data. It's also better suited for LLM agents.

# Search logs
npx @kopai/cli logs search --service my-app
