Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MetaPost 2.11 (mplib) for the browser: mp-tikz-wasm 0.3.1, trimmed to MetaPost (with TeX labels), unchanged

Upstream: https://github.com/jmckalex/mp-tikz-wasm

Use

Pinned to this version, from a CDN:

Reproducing this build

Nothing here is compiled by us: the files are copied unchanged from the release archive v0.3.1 of mp-tikz-wasm (https://github.com/jmckalex/mp-tikz-wasm/releases/download/v0.3.1/mp-tikz-wasm-0.3.1.tar.gz, SHA-256 24b0cd291a18ead46c8c09f78bedbf82fd965acb87cc5f1fb447fd38f353c152), built from commit 52b7bbc11e4e9ea60903171e1901ff8b636815ff of https://github.com/jmckalex/mp-tikz-wasm, where the sources of every program and the patches applied to them are. The script that produced these files is included as build/stage-mpost.sh.

Toolchain

  • The upstream release workflow (emscripten 6.0.9, TeX Live 2025 sources); see the upstream README, "Building from source"

Sources

  • mp-tikz-wasm 0.3.1: https://github.com/jmckalex/mp-tikz-wasm/tree/v0.3.1 (commit 52b7bbc11e4e9ea60903171e1901ff8b636815ff)
  • TeX Live 2025 sources, as pinned by that commit (scripts/extract-vendor.sh)

Steps

  1. Download the release archive and check its SHA-256.
  2. Copy dist/ without LuaTeX, the command line and the prerenderer, and the bundles listed above.
  3. Copy the license texts and NOTICE.md.

The comment at the top of the build script, verbatim:

Stages MetaPost for the browser as @kreijstal/mpost-wasm: the prebuilt release
v0.3.1 of mp-tikz-wasm (https://github.com/jmckalex/mp-tikz-wasm), unchanged,
trimmed to what MetaPost needs: the library, mplib.wasm (MetaPost 2.11), tex.wasm
and dvisvgm.wasm (for btex/verbatimtex labels), and the bundles core, cm-tfm,
cm-type1, ps-fonts, tex-plain and latex-core. LuaTeX, the TikZ snapshot and the
other opt-in bundles are left out.

Checksums of the published files

In SHA256SUMS (sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS).

LGPL-3.0-or-later AND GPL-2.0-or-later AND GPL-3.0-or-later. The license texts of everything compiled in are in LICENSES/.
